What is International Master?

An International Master is a high-ranking title awarded by the International Chess Federation (Fédération Internationale des Échecs or FIDE) to chess players who have achieved outstanding performances in international competitions. This title is one step below International Grandmaster, which is the highest title a chess player can attain.
