It gets worse. They jail some people (mostly black people, of course) for "4 consecutive life sentences" and similar nonsense.

Ask any of these judicial blockheads whether they believe in reincarnation, and they'll condemn you for a heathen, of course.

Can you imagine if they actually believed in reincarnation. The dude does say 70 years, dies at age 90 in prison. Then the authorities believe he has come back as a rich kid in Florida and they figure that out when he is 5 years old. They decide the kid is Mr. Bad Guy reincarnated and sentence the 5 year old to life, this is only the second life sentence. So the 5 year old grows up in prison, dies at the age of 80, spent 75 years in prison. Then they think this three year old is Mr. Bad Guy and they throw THAT kind in prison for life, another 90 years goes by, he dies. They find another suspect kid, age 2 (they are getting better at spotting them) and in prison he goes, he dies at the age of 80 in prison.

The board gets together, stamp on his paperwork, sentence carried out......

Wow. Vicious judicial system compared with UK. Here you can kill a man and get a life sentence (18 years in reality) and walk after 9 years for good behaviour. Looking at some of these dudes, they've got like 90 year sentences. That would be sole destroying. I can't see why anyone would even think twice about committing a crime in the US.

Well, that's part of the problem with such ridiculous sentences. If, in practical terms, you're going to spend life in the can for holding up a liquor store anyway, you might as well kill both attendants in an attempt to get away with it. If they do catch you after all, they'll lock you up for two life sentences for murder plus the ninety years for armed robbery, but what difference does that make, in real terms? None.

Some real life chess advice in prison : 1. If your opponent doesn't believe en passent, or even castling , then you play his rules.

2. Always play the biggest guy in there and let him beat you 😉. Then repeat a few times if necessary.

These two pearls may save your ass in prison.

Probably because they are so angry about the long sentences they could get they just lash out and kill somebody.

Multiple life sentences has less to do with sentencing than with eligibility for parole.

What, you can be three times ineligible for parole? Seems to me that when you're ineligible, you're ineligible.

Besides, it's often quoted as consecutive life sentences. Parole or no parole, those words do not belong together.

"kill a man" ? There are different degrees here. I dunno know about there. But with manslaughter you could realistically be out some wheres between 5 and 10 here.

Vehicular homicide (while drunk), your looking at 10.

Premeditated murder or something else particularly heinous , your facing life. Or, the death penalty( depending on the state , of course) Usually after doing about 10 years on death row.
