It's the pornification of America. Sex sells or at leat that's what Madison Ave says. Can't watch films with your kids either! I hate hollywood! Everything is topsy turvy. What is ugly is glorified, what is sick consideerd heroic, what is cruel, bloodthirsty and destructive is "nuanced" and intrigueing. Lately I only watch old, old movies or read instead!

My friend, all you have to do is to consume from all the good, healthy, and
abundant Christian cinema.

There's drama, comedy, and animation for kids, you name it!

Madison Ave and - more importantly - box office receipts. I suppose if market forces dictated it (that is, if enough people avoided films with graphic violence or sexual content, or if enough adults stopped taking their children to films with risque content), films with these 'undesirable attributes' would stop being made, or stop being made in the numbers they are, catering instead to the, ahem, 'niche' that actually wants to see such things.

As Seitse points out, there's always Christian cinema in the meantime, which I'd imagine has no truck with violence or overt sexuality. Presumably, if enough people indicate their preference for that sort of fare, it will supplant 'mainstream' cinema.

Two options:

1. Stop watching hollywood films!

or

2. Watch the old hollywood films. The old stuff is way better anyway.

Who's scared? Scariness isn't the issue. The issue is that viweing such material , available even to underage kids (12 and under) is harmful. You do not want children developing ahead of their mental age/maturity level. Such exposure is correlated to increased teen pregnancy, increased drug use, increased divorce. You libs out there OK with all that keep approving of hollywood garbage. I guess it keeps the world full of unhappy disaffected people, always more likely to turn liberal, so as to continue whining and producing and consuming more garbage. Keep it up!

I haven't watched many 12 and under films lately, so I apologize if they are filled with
sexual content. I was referring to movies for older audiences -- as I assumed (maybe
incorrectly) that the OP was referring to.

While I don't agree that children under 12 can't learn about sex or be exposed to issues
regarding sex, I do agree it's a more delicate issue at that age and I'd rather talk to my
kids about it then them get their information from the entertainment industry.

And I hope you don't think that anyone with an open mind to sex is a "lib".... 😕

Naturally there's exceptions to every rule. You hit it on the head when stating you do not want kids learning about sex from the entertainment industry. Hollywood gets nothing right. They distort history when the actual story would be more compelling, inject their political agenda into everything they produce, distort reality to a degree far outpacing the need for escapism one watches films for to begin with and injects all sorts of other messages. Teaching kids about sex should be left to the parents. I was not talking about material produced to target the under twelve audience, but the open availability of all such material pretty much to anyone. You cannot watch anything with your own mother anymore said another poster. Try watching your regular sitcom with your kids!

Let's try the movies for older audiences. Seems like nothing gets a good review anymore unless it is sordid, ugly, puerile, full of drugs, alcohol abuse, random, gratuitous nudity, etc. Leaving nothing to the imagination is a de facto admission hollywood lacks one! I am no prude, but hollywood evidences no self restraint. Anything goes because they claim that's what the public wants? Study after study reveals more "old fashioned" style films make more money so the reality is hollywood simply wants to impose its will on the public. Another example is as follows. Hollywood claims nothing you watch can really influence your behavior yet you hardly see anyone smoking in films or TV because hollywood's pet peeve is smoking and portraying it on screen could lead people to smoke. They cannot have it both ways! Either what you watch could influence you or it can't.

You seem averse to the free market all of a sudden. Why, when the choice is between you making the effort to protect your children and controlling what they are exposed to, on one hand, and seemingly seeking to impose your values and morality on everybody else, on the other, do you do you choose the latter? It's a funny kind of Libertarianism if you ask me.

Are people with a modest amount of disposable income who are looking for a few brief moments of entertainment possibly interested in fictional relationships? I think so. I love romance. Sex seems to be linked for some reason.

The real question is why are most movies done so badly?
