Interestingly, that's why I learned French -- to be able to watch the large French sections in the Battle of Algiers without having to have my eyes jerk all over the place while potentially missing something -- I'm a relatively slow English reader. 😉
It's Swedish. But I don't mind what language a movie is in, as long as it's English or has English subtitles. 😉

Cheers. I'm going to pop into the video store tomorrow. If you enjoy Gothic horror told though the eyes of a young boy, and you haven't seen it yet, check out "Let the Right One In" (Låt den Rätte Komma in) My favourite movie of 2008.

Cheap Hammer film, they did not have the budget for a ship
so you get this pirate film with no pirate ship and no shots at all of the sea.
They go up and down a river on a raft!
But Christopher Lee portrays the best ever pirate captain seen on screen.
Much better than Johnny Depp and Robert Newton (Long John Silver).
The film is naff but I watch it now and then to see Lee, he is simply magnificent.

My list would be horizontal, I wouldn't try to say one was 'better' than another, how would you compare Mrs Doubtfire to Light the red lantern for instance, both on my list.
So in no particular order, Zardoz, 2001 space odyssey, Silent Running, Fargo, Contact, Silence of the Lambs, Birds, Citizen Kane, Mutiny on the Bounty (Marlin Brando version), Patriot ...[text shortened]... films I loved, and have seen twice, if anyone thinks there is one stinker in there, tell me!

Originally posted by sonhouseOooh, sonhouse, yours is one of those kinds of lists of films that makes me pore over my own wondering how I hadn't been able to include more of those you thought to choose!
Zardoz, 2001 space odyssey, Silent Running, Fargo, Contact, Silence of the Lambs, Birds, Citizen Kane, Mutiny on the Bounty (Marlin Brando version), Patriot Games, Hunt for Red October, Broken Trail, The man from Snowy river, The gods must be crazy, part one and part two, Mad Max, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Mrs. Doubtfire, Beautiful Mind, Light the red Lanter ...[text shortened]... the films I loved, and have seen twice, if anyone thinks there is one stinker in there, tell me!
Ohmygod you're right: 2001 space odyssey...
Silent Running (what about Dark Star too?),...
Fargo, Birds, ...
Mutiny on the Bounty (no no NO the Anthony Hopkins v Mel Gibson version using the long unmade David Lean script!), ...
...Pulp Fiction, Mad Max, Blade Runner, Amadeus, Godfather, Part 1 and part 2. All should have somehow made it onto my list.
What are you like? (Norfolk U.K. accent): [in direct response to your if anyone thinks there is one stinker in there, tell me!)
Kill Bill 1 and Kill Bill 2 (two films I found utterly utterly awful and worthless, even on post-ironic or proto-neo-ironic levels... simply cannot understand the wisespread admiration for these two... a true enigma to me... I concede that I may simply be totally in the wrong),
Mrs. Doubtfire (mmm alright... but wouldn't the 'cross dressing slot' be taken by the peerless "Tootsie"?),
Forest Gump (always feel more-than-irritated by its apparent message),
Shawshank Redemption (found it mawkish and contrivedly 'feel good' rather than a genuine study of the human condition... was I missing something? Loads of people rate it. Only watched it once. Any pointers if I were to try it again?)
