Most European nations allow 18 yr olds to be MPs, and by extension, prime minister. Minimum age to be president in the U.S. is 35.
Should minimum age requirements for adults to hold office or be world leaders be removed?
Also: should there be a cutoff age where someone is considered too old to be in government?
@vivify said18 year old you can gonand die for your country, but you’re not allowed to lead it?

I’m not in favour of a maximum age limit. Let people choose.

Maybe in Europe where people aren't dumb as dirt.
I think there should be a minimum and a maximum. I never thought about it, so I'm not sure what they should be, but "let the people decide" has caused many problems in the US.
Mitch McConnell prevented the Senate from starting confirmation hearings when Barack Obama decided on a Supreme Court Justice nominee, saying "It's too close to the election, let the people decide". This was in January, when the election was in November. This allowed Trump to place THREE Justices on the Supreme Court. We all see what happened after that, including the reversal of Roe v. Wade.
"Let the people decide" might work in Europe, but not the US.
Another issue is "states' rights". Or "let the people of each state decide how to run their state", circumventing federal law. Always, ALWAYS a bad thing. It allows states to decide issues which are best dealt with in federal law. If it weren't for "states' rights", slavery would never have been legal in the US.
At least half the voters in the US aren't mature enough to handle "let the people decide". It leads to "let's make a bunch of laws only morons like us want to shove down everyone else's throat". Like abortion bans. Like outlawing same-sex marriages. Like the Ten Commandments in classrooms.

Teachers? Scientists? Priests? Librarians? Civil servants? Military service people? Astronomers?
So you have someone like Willy Nelson, shooting past 90, still writing songs by the dozen, still touring, should we go, Willy, hate to say it to you but we are forcibly moving you to a nice old folks home in Utah right next to the Mormon center for music.
Or actors? Clint Eastwood is something like 90 and still making films, get that bum out of here and get someone new like Storm Reid, we need to cull out all those old farts.
As for POTUS, make a yearly cognitive test if that's what it takes.
In ancient times, I mean REALLY ancient times, the old folks were revered because they saw the seasons come and go and could tell whether the time was right for reproduction, hunting, and finding new grounds but now an 19 yo could tell a 60 yo how things are going and what said 60 yo needs to do to succeed.
All that in sincere jest of course.
So you are from Ireland? My gran on one side are the McCarts and the other side Murphy's, it seems I have some Irish in me, I play Irish tunes professionally, used to anyway, so got the bug.
You do any Irish tunes? Bodhran? Tin whistle?
@A-Unique-Nickname
How did you EVER guess? I try SO hard to keep that from people, I mean, when you are actually 70+ but look 40, you have to hide it....🙂
Funny thing is, still in the works for a high tech job and I have 413 tunes, most my own, on Soundcloud, some Irish tunes even, like Julie Delaney, really like that reel, I feel reel good when I play that on the mandolin🙂
@Suzianne saidDoes that really have anything to do with age though?

@shavixmir saidYou have a point, to be sure, but American men are not likely to be fully emotionally developed until they are older. They stay children, with the accompanying selfishness, far longer than men do in other countries. And it gets worse with privilege. I think if we delay when people like Barron Trump become of a political age when they can hold office, all the better.
Does that really have anything to do with age though?
I'm sure you can spot them a mile off when they visit your country.
Again, maybe not an age problem, but who's going to go around determining how mature some guy is running for congressman in some hole in the wall district in the middle of nowhere.
@sonhouse saidI say good on you.

@A-Unique-Nickname saidI agree. I understand everyone gave Reagan a hard time being as old as he was. But it was a different time. Trump wouldn't have gained nearly as much traction back then, especially in middle America, where they seem to love him now.
Suzi for president 🥳
Not sure about a lower age limit but you'd think that once you reach 70 it's time to move on and let someone else handle the job. Whatever that job is... President, bus driver...

Definitely a social ill specific to America, and it has a lot to do with a failure of anger management and weak impulse control. Viz. rampant gun violence…
@vivify saidNancy Pelosi is older than Biden, yet she called on him to drop out of the race.

That is how they did it in the USSR.

We deny ballot access like Putin does.
We force leaders to resign like the Russians.
Democrats knowingly pressured facebook to censor the truth.
Democrats are aspiring to be like Russia.
Why do democrats demonize Russia with lies while doing everything just like Russia?
@moonbus saidHave you seen the UK lately?
Definitely a social ill specific to America,
Right-wing riots erupted caused by misinformation on Twitter. Who does that remind you of?
Remember Boris? Remember Liz Truss? Wouldn't you agree that these cartoonishly inept leaders would fit right in with Republicans?
I can go on with Nigel Farage, the rise of Tommy Robinson, etc., but these social ills are endemic throughout the West. Italy elected a Nazi sympathizer. France came dangerously close to doing the same. And Poland may as well be the state of Texas.
@moonbus saidNice catch, I'll have to take a look.
