You guys really do this? You can't sit next to a fan from the other side without a fence between you? Geez!
As a matter of fact, when we're away (some places that is, there are some aways where I would never attempt to do so) we will usually seek out a local bar before the match to have a chat with the locals and share some pints.
After the match we can meet again.
But during the match it's US and THEM, the really great thing is that when you do this in the weekend you don't need to do the same thing during workdays. Meaning you don't feel the urge to pick on the guys in marketing or invade a random country.

After a weekend of polite compliments to the opposing fans at the baseball match, you cause nothing but trouble here at RHP.
But I will let it pass, after a weekend of cheering and shouting, I have no voice left to speak up against you.
I don't know if you have noticed the light spirited tone of my post ?
Now do you really think I belive you are a maniac because you like to watch your sport in silence ?

I don´t know why cars going around in circles is fun. Neither do I understand why a hundred points each in basketball is remotely interesting and I can´t understand why they need to stop every two minutes.
However, cultures are different. You like to sing your heart out to opposing fans and I like to shove beer down my throat and have a good piss up with the opposing fans after the rugby.
I do like cricket too but I´d rather not admit that. If anybody thinks that´s about as interesting as having a picnic in the cat litter, I wouldn´t hold it against them.
This thread at times also shows what is wrong with Rugby Union. The fans may all get together they then gang up on those who support the national and more popular game. Football fans need protecting from Rugby Union fans with their chip on their shoulders that their game is not as popular. Rugby fans think that as someone is able to have a drink with the opposition supporters after a rugby game it cannot possibly happen in other sports in their blinkered little world, which means I must be dreaming having spent many a sociable drink on the train home with other teams supporters as long as there isnt a bunch of rugby fans to ruin it.
Originally posted by deriver69Now now, I didn't just mention rugby. Every sport apart from football gets by without segregation. I know that, probably the majority of football fans could happily sit in the terraces like all the other sports fans and have a good time and get on.

This thread suggested that the penning of fans and the singing of songs to the "opposition" fans was something other sports missed out on. It suggested a kind of tribal "supporterhood" was something to be proud of and didn't mention the game at all.
As a rugby fan myself, I don't care one jot how popular it is. As long as I still can still see game being played and perhaps the six nations tournament, I'm happy. It's the game and the contest on the pitch that does it for me, not how much anybody talks about it. Actually, in truth, I've probably been to more footy matches than I have rugby matches now I think about it.
