We also have a Right to Defend Ourselves, and assault is against the law.
Bin Laden attacked the USA, and Keith wrote a song about it. How is that responding to insults with violence? If anything it's the opposite. He advocates res ...[text shortened]... lence. Dr. King was a true American, and he was peaceful.

In conjunction with the above post, I think that It is occasionally consistent with American Ideals to respond violently to a verbal insult.
