@divegeester saidI don't know, that is why they called it a UFO I guess.
What was it then?
I didn't see it, didn't the pilot that shot it down see what it was?
Do we have blind pilots now?
@shallow-blue saidThey blew that when the "completely destroyed" (pilot's words) it with s $400,000 stinger missile instead of shooting it with bullets instead for a slow decent to the ground or water. It was detected before it went over Alaska so they had plenty of time to plan it. If they were so determined to make the maker of stinger missiles happy they could have shot it down in the ocean near Alaska. Their excuse for not doing that was that the ocean was too cold or something like that. LOL
To analyse what's in there?
To stop it getting beyond the range of USA ground station jammers?
To stop China from getting their gear back and using it a second time?
"To stop it getting beyond the range of USA ground station jammers?"
What jammers? What is your source of information?
@metal-brain saidThat, too, has been extensively debunked. On a balloon that size, bullet holes barely make a difference.

@metal-brain saidThen how do you know it wasn’t a weather balloon?
I don't know, that is why they called it a UFO I guess.

@shallow-blue saidNo, that is a lie. It was never debunked.

A bullet hole will cause the balloon to leak helium. Balloons that have helium tanks will run out eventually. Are you suggesting that a bullet shot through a balloon over Alaska could not bring it down before it got to South Carolina?
@divegeester saidBecause a UFO is unidentified and I didn't shoot it down.
Then how do you know it wasn’t a weather balloon?
Didn't the pilot that shot it down see it? If not, how could he shoot at it?
You would think before someone reports that a UFO was shot down they would ask the pilot what it looked like. Maybe ask "was it in the shape of a saucer?' or something like that.
@divegeester saidSorry. I thought I was on the UFO thread.
What was it then?
It was likely a weather balloon.
The Pentagon determined it was not big enough to be of any more use than a spy satellite which China has. This is just a way to demonize China with false conspiracy theories the way they did it with Russia. The USA planned the Ukraine war years in advance. The USA knew if they had Ukraine puppet seek NATO membership Russia would have no real choice but to invade Ukraine. The alternative was having NATO at their doorstep which would lead to nukes on their doorstep.
Did the USA like nukes the USSR put in Cuba? The USSR only did that because the USA put nukes in Turkey. If the USSR hated nukes in Turkey enough to put them in Cuba how do you think they would like them even closer in Ukraine?
Russia invading Ukraine was completely predictable. That is what the USA wanted. They kept expanding NATO until they did. This was the plan. The military industrial complex has money to make and they don't make it from peace.
@Metal-Brain
Wow, I didn't know you were SUCH a maven of military gear.
I don't suppose you figured in the fact at 50 or 60 thousand feet up a camera gets much more resolution than a camera in orbit and the receive antennas intercepting our radio transmissions like military communications and civilian cell phone traffic.
Your anti US bias is clearly showing here. We will donate into a fund for your flight to Moscow where you WILL be greeted as a hero.
You should be in prison for supporting Russia just like Eastman, Jim Jordan, Trump, and the rest of the evil cabal of anti democracy forces in the US.
You would LOVE to see the end of democracy here in the US and for that we condemn you to a life in hell in Russia.
Or maybe a special place in hell if hell exists.
But of course you will just ignore this post and continue unabated with the anti US propaganda coming from your REAL boss, Putin, who BTW is close to dying, I am sure you will mourn him for years.
@metal-brain saidThat's exactly what I am saying. Read up on the one you posted about earlier and you'll see it flew from Alaska to Finland with 3 countries' air forces pumping bullets into it.

@athousandyoung saidI post a lot of links. Which one?

My government needs an excuse to ban China from buying up our property. The USA doesn't want to be a free market economy anymore. China is beating us at our own game.

@metal-brain saidEventually is not good enough if you want it to come down in your 12 mile limit so you can claim and examine the debris.

And it would’ve been a half decent live firing exercise for the pilot so the money isn’t really wasted either way.
@kevcvs57 saidWaging war is a decent live firing exercise. Is that money well spent too?

@shallow-blue saidTo make Biden look less wimpy.

@kevcvs57 saidI think it's a Trojan horse, myself. the Chinese are not stupid
It’s been explained umpteen times but ok.
The us military have the means to not only monitor what this ballon is trying to intercept but also block its ability to intercept those signals on top of this it was a good opportunity to gather intelligence on China’s eavesdropping capability.
Blocking and Monitoring this balloon until it was over water but still within the 12 mi ...[text shortened]... definitely the smartest move. Might explain why the CCP and the MAGA politicians are so backed off.
