@eladar saidWay to miss the point. Congrats.
RE Lee is not a Civil War hero for people in Virginia? What state did R.E. Lee fight for in the Civil War?
How uneducated can you be?
I was saying Lee isn't a "hero" due to his skills as a general; he's a "hero" to white supremacists because he lead the fight to keep slavery. Lee symbolizes the hatred of what those Charlottesville racists.
In case you still don't get it: those Charlottesville white supremacists care more about his fight to keep slavery than his accomplishments as a general.
@vivify saidAre you saying that everyone who would like to see the RE Lee statue stay is a white supremacist?
Way to miss the point. Congrats.

@mott-the-hoople saidOf course, and as soon as all the statues of whites are taken down and the starues of the George Floyd types go up then blacks will start prospering, become more educated, have good family life with less broken homes, better jobs, etc etc .. problems will be solved.
an inanimate rock gone, that should stop the chicago killings…rock on
@mott-the-hoople said1850 the life expectancy for slaves was 21 years

The post that was quoted here has been removedYes; but you would be giving Americans too much credit here. You've justifiably made many posts criticizing the ignorance of average Americans on the nuance of history and historical figures.
Americans see history through quite a narrow and self-centered lens; thus, it's quite reasonable to conclude that most U.S. admirers of Lee identify more closely with what he represents (the fight to keep slavery) than the details of his actual accomplishments or personal beliefs.
This is especially true given America's continued racial history, and that a man who openly made disparaging racist statements (and was supported multiple times by the KKK) was elected president.
@athousandyoung saidcomprehension my friend.
