Disease and violence are also rampant among the poor who can't afford food, shelter or medical attention.
Whether or not releasing convicts early is a good idea, there are many other social issues that take priority over making laws that potentially robs justice from victims and families of those victims.
What State do you vote in? Or, as you youngsters used to say thirty years ago,
Where you from, ese?
@no1marauder saidI seen it on the Sopranos
How many 80 year olds "kill again"?
I'm sure you or someone will find an isolated case or two but keeping these people in prison with all the associated costs is senseless.
@mott-the-hoople saidPutting less people in prison "got us where we are now, leading the world with prison population"?
that is what got us where we are now, leading the world with prison population
@athousandyoung saidNew York.

@mott-the-hoople saidWe're talking about California. Do you live there?
“Disease and violence are also rampant among the poor who can't afford food, shelter or medical attention
any able bodied person living in the US right now if poor, are being poor of their own choosing.
I see help wanted signs everywhere I go

@no1marauder saidbeing lenient with criminals induces more crime. If a person pays the price early on with a short stint they will understand the system is serious. One gets off, 10 are encouraged.

When criminals see others commit crimes and not get any time for it, it encourages more crime. You libs cant seem to understand this…even as people are fleeing the dem run states.
@no1marauder said - "The "libertarian" wants more prisons!"
-----------------
Yes, because Libertarians want more freedom, not more crime. Wise old Libertarian saying:
The right to your fist ends at the right of my chin.
@athousandyoung saidSo all of a sudden, you are worried about the financial aspect of it?
Is there a point at which too many people are imprisoned in your view?!
How are we going to pay for these prisons?
How are we going to pay for the influx of illegal immigrants? Obviously, the immigrants far outnumber the rise of crims.
@athousandyoung said1. Yes, and I can't/won't take the time to calculate that, it matters not, at this point.

2. First, take all the money slated to be given to illegal immigrants.
@AThousandYoung "We cannot afford to imprison so many people and it is immoral as well."
Impoverished El Salvador just opened a 40,000 inmate facility. Please. Mighty USA can afford it.

@vivify saidand they won't be able to find housing because the surge of illegal immigrants has taken a lot of it.,
Unless those prisoners can't find housing.
@Mott-The-Hoople said - so protecting the public from these killers isnt on your radar?
Hey, man, it costs money, don't ya know 🤔
@mott-the-hoople saidThat's BS. The US has harsher punishments for crime than virtually any other advanced country yet its crime levels esp. violent crime are substantially higher.

Right wing policies just don't work.
