@shavixmir saidA nationalistic type of collectivist dictatorship in which the individual is subordinate to the country or nation. It is a Democrat tactic used at their whim.
What the F is cancel culture?
Is this another one of those alt-right snowflake fads where they wrap themselves up in victimhood and blame everyone but themselves for the woes nobody else really experiences?
When no one was punished for doing all the stuff in Congress for these 4 years that they did, it changed our world.. No one, as I predicted 2 years ago, will ever go to jail for that, freeing up every one of them now to do what the hell they want to do,

@averagejoe1 saidCan you explain that "collectivist dictatorship" comment? Is that from Ayn Rand?

It is unclear from your writing how that applies here to censorship, at least the the type of censorship defined by Republicans as "mean people won't let me tweet anymore".
@wildgrass saidYes, it is verbatim since her philosophy is something I've subscribed to since the 70's. People should be allowed to be independent , as long as following the golden rule, do unto others. As to 'how it applies to censorship", I see the new authorities seem to be telling people what to do. You know, like the Nazi's painted Jude on the shopkeepers, which of course was just the beginning. "No, you are not allowed to open your business!!" is what that has become with the Dem dictatorship. and yes, most certainly, you are pushing onto us (the independents I mention above) into a collectiveness.......can't you sense it. Kamala says to everything in one big basket and at the end of the day, we all will end up in the same place.

Wildgrass............what in the HELL is going on? If I want to build something, like Howard Roark in the Fountainhead, all to code, I can envision you and Kamala telling me....'Naaa, that is not for the good of the people'. Wildgrass....come clean...what is the deal,? I have to get ready, any secret info would be appreciated.

@averagejoe1 saidMy contribution to your concern is: NOBODY LIKES CONFORMING TO BUILDING CODES! You've painted it as blue vs. red thing but such codes exist everywhere red and blue in our country, are getting worse every day, and many of them make no darn sense at all. They are particularly bad in areas with high population densities where your new pool can have a significant effect on your neighbor's floodplain, but might not and either way you're paying for 12 different consultants to give you 12 different answers.

Republicans aren't fixing it either. One way we could make things a little better is to stop blaming the other side (Dems and Kamala) for problems they didn't cause. What is the problem? Money. Public works departments get paid by you everytime you file your fee with the paperwork to get a consultant to quantify your impermanent coverage. City and state officials are adding layers because it helps their budget. This problem is arguable worse in Red states where the overall regulations might be lower but the fees are often much higher.
One silver lining is that more stringent building codes are associated with higher home prices, probably because it makes the neighborhood "nicer" overall. I agree with you on the civil liberties thing. Maybe one solution would be a federal law prohibiting the collection of fees associated with building code inspections. That oughta dry up the money stream.

@wildgrass saidYou converted this post to building codes. Always remember the laws are made by people you elect> (sohshouse might say "No, I voted for the other guy!!) But the occupant of the seat is there by law, and he makes laws according to code. That is that, so I guess we agree. And yes, a building line may be set at 50 feet, and I think it should be 40 feet. Makes the world go round.

Then you write that money is the problem. Of course it is, in just about every concept of society. Don't get your point.
My point was , hell,, you made me forget. I'll go back and read it. I think it was about people telling other people what they can and can't do. We want you to not earn money, we want you to pay for that guy's expenses...that sort of thing. I just don't get it, I really don't.

The only difference between the political parties is: you call out a Democrat for doing something wrong, he resigns ala Al Franken. You call out a Republican for doing something wrong, and he'll throw a handful of confetti in the air, scream "I'm Being Censored", point to a non-existent squirrel in a tree, and run away cackling like an evil clown.
@averagejoe1 saidThanks to Godwin's law, you just lost the argument.

@suzianne saidYou are right. Looks like I will end up, side by side with you, all at the same place at the end of the day, as Kamala projects. We will all be equal at the end of the day. You are right. There is a loser in here somewhere. No winners. Downer. I'm glad Steve Jobs and Bill Gates came along before all this happened.

@sonhouse
In the spirit of unity, I haven't heard anyone on this forum defending Senator Hawley's argument.
He asserted he is being muzzled on the cover of a nationally-distributed and widely-read newspaper. His criticism of Tweeter and Spacebooks and academic publishers may have some merit, but it is not a free speech issue or a sign of an Orwellian society. It's probably simply an anti-trust issue that can be handled legislatively. He offers zero solutions. The whining is so annoying but it must play well with his constituents who prefer "owning the libs" over fixing problems.

@sonhouse saidIf you are referring to me, I , unlike you , do not do streets. Never been in a street. The same way I feel about eating asparagus. I can't imagine.

What is clear about the ultrarightwingnuts here is you and your buddies just wish you all could have been there at insurrection ground zero, the traitors woodstock.

No straight and narrow mindedness that is so prevalent in conservative thinking.

@averagejoe1 saidNo surprise there, then.
