The 1932 famine was the worst human man made famine in history. But Stalin was an evil guy.
We'll see if that's true when North Korea opens up. It's entirely possible that the stories that come from there will on par or worse than any from Russia.

But meanwhile, Chavez is providing aid to the poor of the USA.
So much for the free market.
The difference will be that Venezuala will have tens of thousands at risk of actual death when the world is called on to provide relief. The token "relief" Chavez is offering will do nothing but allow the "poor" to afford a higher tier TV offering from the cable TV company with the savings they realize.

We'll need to wait and see what becomes of Venuzuala.
Some people seem desparate for it to end in poverty and starvation. Personally, I wish them well. So far they're an example to the rest of us.
Originally posted by RedmikeFor me at least, it's not so much that I want it to end in poverty, it's that the warning signs are massive and shining bright, so I point at them. I can't help myself, I like shiny things.

"So far they're an example to the rest of us."
I think this shows our differences. To me, so far the signs are pointing down. Perhaps I'm too quick to judge, perhaps you're reluctant to see the negatives, or perhaps a little bit of both.
What kind of country would put price controls on things like, oh i don't know, milk for example? That country would have to be crazy.
In Canada I hear they actually put price controls on medications for the elderly. Don't they know Drug companies need to make profit to give to their shareholders?
I wonder why so many Americans are trying to buy Canadian drugs for less than American drugs cost when Americans are supposed to support a free market economy.
Life's full of its hypocrocies I suppose.

You are in favor of price controls, yet you live in a country that has no price controls on beer? Why you hypocrit!
BTW: milk price controls in the US regulate a minimum price for milk. The prices we're talking about in Venezuala regulate a maximum price.

And, of course, Chavez has allies in other countries in the region

"President Evo Morales said there were no immediate plans to pay compensation to the site's owners." Excellent.
