Why Aren’t Conservatives Funny?
So why do conservatives fail to turn political news into entertaining satire like liberals do?
In 2007, with the Republican Party in tatters and Jon Stewart splashed across every magazine cover, Fox News Channel began broadcasting "The 1/2 Hour News Hour", which was billed as “a conservative Daily Show.” It was a spectacular flop, because it put politics before humor. “It was mostly just loud and complainy with not a whole lot of basis in fact or reality,” says the Saturday Night Live writer Alex Baze.
Obviously right-wing comedians are far and few between.
“My wife’s a dear. I can’t wait for hunting season to open.”
- Dean Martin -
Comedy generally challenges the established order. And the established order is generally more conservative than the average person.
When the political right challenges the established order, it’s only in a more (extremer) conservative mind-set.
What do you call a Jew with a gas bottle?
A do-it-selfer.
What’s a Jew with 2 gas bottles?
A dealer.
- classic right-wing joke from the 80’s -
You can simplify it: how can a right-wing comedian joke about trump or Boris Johnson?
And when you answer that honestly, you’ll see what I mean.
@averagejoe1 saidI did.
Uhhhhh, did Vivify just post a 1 hr YouTube of inane substance, expecting anyone with a brain to take it all in? Are you OK Vivify, seriously?
Just because you're too lazy to get new ideas from different sources doesn't mean others are as well
@contenchess saidIf a person tells a joke (which is comedy, not humor), the joke is funny, not the person, though you love him, he is wonderful, rosy cheeks and a great personality . The joke is what is supposed to be, and is, funny.
Comedy died a few years ago when people started complaining about their feelings getting hurt 🙄
I think the only one who isn't afraid to tell jokes is Dave Chappelle.
Last night a friend said to us that Robert is a collector .(he always like to get stuff that he thinks is valuable or will be valuable. It is usually junk). A humorous person among us said. "Collector?? No, my dear, he is but a shopper." Not so funny as you read it, but you get the drift. That, is humor. Conservatives are full of it.
@AverageJoe1
That would be because you are one of the most racist individuals here on RHP and you get uncomfortable confronting your racism.
@averagejoe1 saidThat's why I posted a link from The Guardian with it. If you don't feel like watching the video, just read the article.

@averagejoe1 saidYeah, especially your posts.
They are Not open minded, because they are scripted. This thread is full of meaningless.

The key was already mentioned in the thread: don't make politics your thing. Be a comic first.
@mghrn55 saidI even thought Alec Baldwin comedic routine on Trump was always great. Had those perfectly pooched lips and air about him.

@wildgrass saidThe only comedians I watch are the offensive ones. The controversial ones.

Like Dave Chappelle or Daniel Tosh.
I don't like political comedy or redneck comedy.
Women comedians talking about women problems are the worst 😒
@contenchess saidTosh is seriously underrated. His wit is sharp, not just in his standup but also on that show he hosted for 10 seasons.
