Is it ethical to abort a fetus that is defective? Down Syndrome is a random thing. Even the most genetically fit people can have a child with Down Syndrome. There is also the possibility an extra chromosome every once in a while can result in an evolutionary jump. How else can a species evolve a different number of chromosomes eventually? It has to start somewhere.
Define ‘defective’ and what the genetic fitness of the parents has to do with it, are you debating the ethics of parental choice or the ethics of state enforced sterilisation of adults deemed unfit in terms of the wider gene pool?
