Oh? Haven't you been following what's been going on in Venezuela for the last 9 years? Your bald assertion makes it seem like you might not actually be all that interested in what's happening.
Originally posted by der schwarze RitterThis is true. One can look to India as an example. India used to be the sweatshop of the IT industry. Now they are experiencing rising wages and software companies in India are finding it a challenge to keep existing employees and find new ones. In other words it has become an employees market. And of course you hear people on this forum talk about how India and China are the two great emerging economies and it's true but look at how they started.

I don't know where the socialists are. Personally I think any reasonably functional society/government has got to be a balance between capitalism and socialism anyhow. Maintaining the correct balance is tough but doable. The lefties on this site simply want to denounce capitalism as the root and cause of all evil and hand the world over to left wing dictators under the guise of some unacheivable communist nirvana.
I'm constantly amazed that so many Europeans, and increasingly, Americans, still view socialism in a favorable light, even after it has been proven repeatedly by history and practice to be the inferior economic system.

Since my university years 30 yrs ago, I have been arguing with friends about this topic, and kept wondering if there could be a particular personality type that finds communism appealing or one that likes capitalism. Now I think I can simplify it down to a single sentence (annoying to some people) ---
Lazy people like communism and hardworking and productive people like capitalism.
A gross generalisation, I know, but it still has some truth to it.

I believe atheism, which resulted from Marxism, caused the defeat of the U.S.S.R. in the Cold War. Marxism, socialism, communalism, etc., takes everything that is meaningful in life: God, family, work, etc., and turns it into a nightmare that is contrary to the spirit of man. Anyone advocating socialism in this day in age is a nincompoop in light ...[text shortened]... of basic economic theory, i.e., like the great mass of unwashed on the RHP Discussion forum.

I'd like to hear an argument about why atheism destroyed the USSR.
I think it's suppose to mean that Marxists/socialists hid behind atheism much the same way some angry communists currently hide as anarchists.
