In nineteen hundred and sixteen
The forces of the crown
For to take Orange, White, and Green
Bombarded Dublin Town
But in '21, Britannia's sons
Were forced earn their pay, when
The black and tans, like lightening ran
From the Rifles of the IRA!
They burned their way through Munster
Then laid Leinster on the rack
Through Connacht, and through Ulster
Marched the men in brown and black
They shot down wives and children
In their own heroic way, but
The black and tans, like lightening ran
From the Rifles of the IRA!
They hanged young Kevin Barry high
Just a lad of eighteen years
Cork City's flames lit up in the sky
But our brave lads new no fear
The Cork brigade with hand-grenades
In ambush wait and lay, and
The black and tans, like lightening ran
From the Rifles of the IRA!
The tans were got, taken out and shot
By a brave and valiant few
Sean Treacy, Dinny Lacey
And Tom Barry's gallant crew
Though we're not free yet
We won't forget
Until our dying day, how
The black and tans, like lightening ran
From the Rifles of the IRA!

hey, thanks for the comment Rose... no doubt you've done a five minute history lesson on the IRA and fee ...[text shortened]... no doubt my u.s visa would be taken away as quickly as rose mcgowan is losing brain cells
So, you can't get a job, because all the non-eatmybishop's have pretty much tied the market down.
The non-eatmybishop's are using violence against you and are supported by a well trained army.
You're randomly mistreated, checked, searched and physcally and verbally abused by the this well trained army.
You get the crap beaten out of you, because someone suspects one of your cousins is in the pro-eatmybishop army.
How exactly do you respond?
Where do you draw the line and start using force to defend yourself?
What do you target? Realistically?
What did the IRA ever do that ANP didn't do?
Would Nelson Mandela have his visa stripped from him?
Methods are only wrong when judged from a certain point of view.
It's wrong to terrorise one set of people by blowing them up in a mall, but it's not so wrong to terrorise people by blowing them up with B52's.
Until you understand what being oppressed is really like, you'll have no idea how you respond to oppression.
Personally, I would never have joined the IRA. Their leadership sucked.

without mentioning, the history of brutal opression and discrimination that lasted for centuries

Seems that many people on this site get "inevitable" mixed up with "justified" these days...
A person who says "911 was a probably outcome of US foreign policy" really means "I am a terrorist-loving, freedom-hating enemy of the USA who condones the murder of US citizens".
This is of course all dependant on which rendition of the IRA is being referred to pre or post the free state and loss of the 6 counties. If one is referring to the farmers who fought British army regulars, black and tans and the local police then their actions are commendable and more or less just, if a little brutal perhaps. If one is however referring to the more recent bunch of drug dealing racketeering criminals then.......
I wish people would do some reading into the 100's/1000's of years of history before brashly commenting on the IRA/Republic/British...... Lets not forget that Ireland is still held up as a role model to a lot of modern separatist groups, look at the guys caught in Columbia training guerrillas. And the IRA did arguably create modern Guerrilla warfare

I received the same type of response when I said that 'guns are bad and should be removed from the human equation'.
Suddenly I was a pussy who wanted to give the criminals free reign...
Are we seeing a trend here?
