@no1marauder saidDo you think it might be a combination of greater prevalence of underlying health conditions and higher air temperature, the figures for pre existing health conditions in the study didn’t explain a death rate 7 times higher in New Orleans.
It's 80 degrees in New Orleans:
"Along with New York and Seattle, New Orleans has emerged as one of the early U.S. hotspots for the coronavirus, making it a national test case for how to control and treat the disease. Chief among the concerns raised by doctors working in the Louisiana city is [b]the death rate, which is seven times that of New York and ten times that o ...[text shortened]... ns/why-is-new-orleans-coronavirus-death-rate-seven-times-new-yorks-obesity-is-a-factor-idUSKBN21K1B0

@kevcvs57 saidWell, jeeezus, Kev. Ya think holding Mardi Gras may have had something to do with New Orleans' high rate?

Same in Brazil now.
@kevcvs57 saidThere are many contributing factors, most of which are discussed in the article.

My point was that Eladar's belief that warmer temperatures will lead to a end to this pandemic is misplaced.
@no1marauder saidIt is not my belief that the deaths will stop with summer, it is the experts.

It will take at least 2 weeks of warm weather to start seeing a trend.

Sorry for the missive, I misunderstood you. Yes, the "rate" is not the death level.
7 x's higher death rate. Very strange.
@Earl-of-Trumps
Some 97% of those killed by COVID-19 in Louisiana had a pre-existing condition, according to the state health department. Diabetes was seen in 40% of the deaths, obesity in 25%, chronic kidney disease in 23% and cardiac problems in 21%.

@eladar saidPoint? Most people survive for decades at least with such conditions.

Funny the nice, warm temperatures didn't protect them.

They die at higher rates because the virus hit people with health issues. It would have the same effect if it hit an old folk home.
That was my point.
@eladar saidThe virus hits people without regard to their health issues. Even someone as stubbornly ignorant as you should understand that by now.

Most of the issues mentioned are reasonably minor and people can live with them for a long time. They are quite common conditions in the US and belie your false claims that only a small percentage of the population need be concerned about this virus.
@no1marauder saidWhen it randomly hits a bad health area, you will get many deaths in that area. Perhaps math is not your strong suit like spelling is not mine. I suck at verb agreement too, at least in comparison to my strengths.

@eladar saidHere's some math; 70 million Americans are obese, 34 million have diabetes. If I check the figures for the other conditions, I'm sure I'll find tens of millions in the US who have those too.

Do you still insist that this virus is a threat to the health of only a small minority?
@no1marauder saidYes I do. Look at the number of deaths and compare it to the total population.

@earl-of-trumps saidThose numbers are for a grand total after three flu seasons. The female virus expert let out that early predictions of total dead were based on 3 year totals in a Trump news conference. I am sure this estimate is no different.
The White House is projecting 100K to 240K deaths in the US.
Worst case: 240k/329M = 0.00073, or 0.073% of the population will die.
Best case: 100k/329M = 0.00030, or 0.030% of the population will die.
Less than 1/10 of 1%
@whodey saidGo ahead. Create those jobs! Hire some people!
To start with, how about creating jobs to make PPE and ventilators instead of forcing people to go without a job and funding massive stimulus packages that erroneously give money to the such things as the abortion industry? Then when the US has enough sell it abroad.
There will be a never ending demand now.
