and they knew it. They deliberately stoked Trump’s baseless lies, knowing they were lies.

Fox materially contributed to Americans’ loss of faith in their own election system, which actually functioned correctly. That’s what happens truth takes a back seat to profit.
I hope Hannity and Carlson are charged with accessory to treason. Failing that, charge them with slander—against Dominion, if not the entire American public.
@moonbus saidI was just about to start this same thread.

The court filings are public now. They all - literally all of them - knew they were lying. Publicly spouting and platforming nonsense. Under oath and penalty of perjury, they were affirming that there was no evidence of a stolen election. They confirmed that what they said on their own shows were lies. They traaaaaashed guests like Sidney Powell who appeared on their own shows behind their backs.
The worst part was that Hannity was working as a part of Trump's campaign. Mark Meadows was telling him what to say on his show, and he dutifully obliged.
These are the most popular "news" shows in the entire country. And yet it seems we should treat them more like reality TV. Are people still watching this, thinking it's real?

@wildgrass saidGiven the aftermath on Jan 6, I don’t think spreading egregious lies is covered under freedom of speech. It’s equivalent to shouting “fire!” in a crowded theater when there is no fire.
Yea, that won't happen. They are protected to say whatever they want. But FoxNews might end up having to write Dominion a very large check.
@moonbus saidCan't say I'm surprised. Historically, propagandists serving as the mouthpiece of many of the most odious regimes on the planet knew that the lies they were peddling were lies. But truth is a commodity, and if the truth is against you, then the way out (at least in the short term) is to cheapen the truth, and then finally assassinate it.

@soothfast saidThe sad thing is, the people Fox, specifically Carlson and Hannity, led down the rabbit hole won’t accept that they were duped by both Trump and Fox. Polls continue to show that something like half the Republicans still think Trump won 2020, and the news that Fox knew Trump was lying won’t change their minds now.

“In a statement Thursday night, Fox News argued that the court filing contained cherry-picked quotes lacking context.”
@mott-the-hoople saidI read the headline and lost all interest.

"Analysis: Fox News has been exposed as a dishonest organization terrified of its own audience"
Garbage article with a lot of garbage claims.
Here's a few of CNN whoppers:

@mott-the-hoople saidYou make a good point. FoxNews admitted under oath that they knew Dominion didn't rig the machines, but that's ok. It doesn't mean that stories like this are not happening everywhere, constantly. Good journalism is about finding the stories, even when they don't exist. It's about asking the tough questions and ignoring the answers you don't like, then offering more misleading evidence to fit into a preordained editorial narrative. All great journalists face the equally noble decisions of whether to use their podium to illuminate the world around us, or to make stuff up for eyeballs and clicks.

That your beloved news source is a lying hive of scum and treachery.
Because… that makes you the fool for believing them.
