The graph shows average tax rates, not actual taxes paid in inflation adjusted dollars. As I previously pointed out the data is incomplete.
I am not rich, probably not even bourgeois, but I don't see that it is any of my business what others earn. It is not relevant to my well ...[text shortened]... that choice. When government spends the money of rich and poor alike, none of us have choices.
I'm not rich (though I make more than I need or spend) and I don't care what others make. I do care about living in a prosperous society and empirical data strongly suggests progressive taxation helps make a society prosperous, therefore I support such a policy.
You do have a choice. You have a vote. And if you don't like the people running for election, you can try to convince others your idea of what government ought to do is preferable and run for election. If that fails, you can move somewhere else where their idea of government is closer to what you prefer.
