@shavixmir
I'm hoping for complete chaos.
An asteroid impact.
Nuclear War.
Extreme climate change.
Zombie apocalypse.
Etc.
Anything...I've only got about 20 years left and I want to see a show before I go.
I also want the world to burn so asteroid impact and nuclear war are the ones I really want to see. 🤗
"Dr Tim Ball Defeats Michael Mann’s Climate Lawsuit!"
Principia Scientific International, August 23, 2019
https://principia-scientific.org/breaking-news-dr-tim-ball-defeats-michael-manns-climate-lawsuit/
Tim Ball accused Michael Mann - the founder of the "Hockey Stick Model" of climate warming - of scientific fraud.
Michael Mann sued Tim Ball. Finally, Mann lost the court case because he never presented the raw data of his calculations. He promised to continue processing.
Independently of the court cases, however, in recent decades the problem of repeatability of scientific results has been addressed. Only up to 30% of the results published in scientific journals are repeatable.
In the case of climate science, most of the data are historical and the history cannot be repeated. The raw data are obtained from different sources and to compare these data and use them in the same model, these raw data have to be adjusted. In that process, biased distortions may appear. To check the validity of the scientific model, the other researchers have to have access to the raw data. Moreover, the other researchers have to know the data used and the computer program used to calculate the model.
Michael Mann, unfortunately, for several years, never presented the raw data of his famous model to the court on demand. Other researchers have also complained that his computer program was unknown, while the supporters of Mann have denied this.
In any case, the mere fact of failing to present the raw data of one's calculations publicly undermines trust in Mann's calculations and his scientific honesty.

Then specify instead of being deliberately vague.
I am not a climate change denier. To be a climate change denier I would have to deny the ice age happened. I have never done that.
"We're experiencing more frequent and more severe wildfires than we did 20 or 10 years ago. More "100 year storms". More droughts. More extreme t ...[text shortened]... ods, but your drought claim is complete anti science bunk.
You are science denying myth spreader.
Ha!
"I am not a climate change denier. To be a climate change denier I would have to deny the ice age happened. I have never done that."
Ha! Or that there is no such thing as climate, huh? That the whole world is a matrix simulation?
No dear, climate change deniers are simply the ones who don't believe humanity is the main cause of the quite recent occurences.
"We're experiencing more frequent and more severe wildfires because man is causing them and mismanaging the forests. It is a mostly man made problem that has nothing to do with global warming."
And this is where you show your climate change denial hat in full display
"Global warming results in more rainfall worldwide. See the Pliocene Epoch."
Yep, you keep saying "this has happened before, nothing we do changes that, humanity isn't responsible for THIS climate change (not the one in the pliocene), climate change is a myth"
This is climate change denyal (not denying that the ice age ever happened). The fact that you think climate change activists complain that people don't believe in ice ages is absolutely hilarious
"You are science denying myth spreader."
Suuure baby, whatever you say
@eintaluj saidBig words, you bigly smart. Nevermind you didn't actually say anything, you used big words, you must know what you're talking about.
@Zahlanzi
"Yes, that's why you're a climate change denier.
Saying humanity is not the main cause is denying climate change."
- With such logical mistakes you can argue whatever. It is an inability of reasoning you are exemplifying here. Perhaps, undereducated...
I am sure you won't mind elaborating... For the undereducated among us who don't use big words. Use smaller words
How come Australia isn't on fire again?
If we caused the current climate events then wouldn't they repeat themselves every season?
Nothing has gotten better and by that logic we should see repeating patterns of new events in the same places.
Australia isn't on fire.
We've had worse hurricane seasons too...
Wouldn't every hurricane season be as bad or worse than before?
We've also had worse tornados in previous years too...
If we are causing the environment to get worse and worse then every season should be worse than the last...right?
@contenchess said"How did humans cause multiple ice ages and warming periods?"
How did humans cause multiple ice ages and warming periods?
I think the planet has its own cycle.
Obviously we have an impact but even if we didn't have an impact the planet would still go through those temperature cycles that it always has.
That's like asking how did humans cause multiple fires millions of years ago and then concluding fires are a natural cycle of the planet and therefore no arsonist can ever be convicted of setting fire to something ever
"I think the planet has its own cycle."
I think you are a troll. The latest patzering
"Obviously we have an impact but even if we didn't have an impact the planet would still go through those temperature cycles that it always has."
First of all temperature implies an entire fukton of other issues. It's not just a matter of adding an extra layer in a freak snow day in May or putting some more ice cubes in your ice tea when you have 30 degrees C days in the middle of October
Secondly, there is a difference between getting the peak of the cycle in 5 000 years and getting it in 50 years
@Zahlanzi
Well those ice ages had a starting point and a tipping point all on their own....
So did the hot periods.
Antarctica wasn't always covered in ice.
Who's to say we aren't at the changing moment right now?
That moment that is needed to change the climate has happened before many times.
We could be at the start of the next one.
Did ya think the earth is supposed to be a comfortable 72 degrees all of the time?

Scientists
"That moment that is needed to change the climate has happened before many times."
Not over the course of 50 years
"We could be at the start of the next one."
We could be. And the reason for that is... not that the planet just wanted to do a rush order on the next cycle.
"Did ya think the earth is supposed to be a comfortable 72 degrees all of the time?"
I think the earth should be as comfortable as possible for all of us and future generations not just a wealthy few . Bezos won't experience the apocalypse. His children won't either. Your grandchildren will.
@Zahlanzi
You act like Europe is covered in ice a mile thick and South America is boiling hot. 🙄
@contenchess saidYep, that's exactly what all scientists are talking about so until that happens, there is no need to do anything about anything
@Zahlanzi

@zahlanzi saidAgreed.

Who cares about 200 years from now?
Nuclear War will end us long before then.
Are you one of those people that think the world will end in 12 years? 😆
@zahlanzi saidThis question has been already answered above. Human activity is not the only possible cause of climate changes. If someone argues, as someone did above, that denying the human cause is the same as denying climate change, then one has claimed that there are no natural causes of climate changes. Climate, however, has changed already long before scientific-technological progress began. If you do not understand so a simple argument, then please do not disturb me anymore. Besides, your tone is unacceptable.
Big words, you bigly smart. Nevermind you didn't actually say anything, you used big words, you must know what you're talking about.

This debate was always going to happen.
I had a look at the original post and yes, there can be some truth argued here.
I do believe climate change has been a part of earth history.
The city I live in has been under 50-100ft of ice 4 or 5 times in the last million years.
Increase in volcanic activity can contribute to climate change.
As can a minute change in solar activity.
As yes, we can be stuck by an asteroid, which will make all this debate moot.
And we will be tempted to believe that human activity affecting a planet as large as our earth is a form of self flattery.
But we should really take the position that we are not helping. And we can do better.
2 centuries ago, we were burning wood.
We switched to coal, an improvement over wood.
We switched to fossil fuels, an improvement over coal.
It's time to switch again. Progress drives human advancements.
If it takes a crisis, invented or not, to do it, then let's do it.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality is for those who just get left behind.
Opportunity knocks.
@contenchess saidWhat do you mean the world will end in 12 years? Are you dumb enough to think anyone is saying that humanity will just end, like fliping a switch? Or did you invent that just because you can't comprehend what scientists are actually warning against?
Agreed.
Who cares about 200 years from now?
Nuclear War will end us long before then.
Are you one of those people that think the world will end in 12 years? 😆
No dear, it will be a gradual process. A process that is happening right now. Mass migration. Famine. Diseases. Wild fires. Bigger and bigger hurricanes. Blizzards. The world will not end, it will just become more and more uncomfortable. And the poor will feel it first. The poor countries before the rich countries. 20 years from now it will be worse than it is today and 50 years from now they will remember with fondness the good days of 2030's.
