I believe it was once almost implemented by a republican president. Also it is to some extent already implemented in Alaska, a conservative state.
Something like it was proposed by President Nixon, but never actually got to a vote in Congress.

It hardly needs to be added that Republicans of 40 years ago were vastly different from Republicans now.

Your Obama obsession is always pathetic.

Here's some interesting reading on how President Sanders will reform the US banking system: https://berniesanders.com/statement-by-senator-bernie-sanders-on-wall-street-and-the-economy/
Well it seems to me that if Obama did not "fix" health care and the banking system like he claimed that he is the one that is pathetic, not me.

But I digress.

So we will listen to the same dolts in the same party promising better things once again.

Just wonderful.

No you won't listen to anyone with any rational solutions to the problems that exist in the US.

That's not who you are.

If you think that the only "rational" solutions are to empower the federal government then no, I'm not rational.

There is no entity that can check the stranglehold that the Big Banks have but the federal government. So you are content to leave the economy in the hands of the economic elite rather than the People's elected representatives.

That is your choice but not one that the People seem comfortable with.

Is it more preferable to give the banking system over to the government for which no one has power over?

The People have power over their elected representatives last I checked.

No one is proposing "giving the banking system over to the government". Stop being some goddamn lazy and read Bernie's proposals.
