Try explaining why all the worlds glaciers are fast dissapearing or why the Antarctic Ice pack is going away a lot faster than even the most dire predictions or why there won't be an Arctic ice pack at all in 50 years. Mirth on guys.

That raises a good question. Could America get carbon offset credits by not letting 3rd world countries build power plants are have cars?

Clearly it's in America's interests if, say, China & India's rate of industrial development (& therefore carbon emmisions) can be lowered.
That the US refused to sign-up to the Tokyo agreement on lowering co2 a few years back could be a slight problem though.

Another rightwingnutterrefusetoseetheforestforthetreeser. Get real.
Laugh it up. I gather you really don't give a crap if the arctic sea ice disappears. I also think you are in the camp of right wing religious centered asssholes who think little old humans could never do something so huge as to effect the incredibly infinite earth.
That has been proven false so many times I might as well tell you the earth is actually more than 6000 years old.

The crazy focus on the end of the world paranoia gets old. I can not figure out why people can not focus on the damage to the environment that can be seen... surely its more than enough. Just the fact that after a hard rain this time of year it is not advisable to change the water in your fish tanks, should be a warning... were you aware of that? How about the large amounts of chemicals leeching into the lakes and rivers from overuse of prescription medicine? Telling everyone that the earths temperature is going to rise a few degrees doesn't mean much... we have AC in our homes/cars/work... what have you physically done to improve your local area besides carrying signs that say the end is near.

You really have your head in the sand. Air conditioning? What good is that going to do when you find you can't grow crops or 5000 miles of coral reef is already destroyed, just what kind of evidence does it take for you to see past the end of your nose? I know all about local pollution, there is a superfund site two blocks from my house, lucky me. I see the effects of the Zinc mines in Palmerton Pa, the whole frigging hillside is destroyed and 50 years later after intense effort it is making a halfassed recovery but 90% of the hills there are bare and I do mean bare, rock where 100 years ago it was lush forest. Don't tell ME about local pollution, I live with it on a daily basis. We can't eat the fish in our local stream, called 'trout stream', the fish are too polluted. But you refuse to use your own reasoning power, instead let yourself be led by rightwingers who have a vested interest in keeping the status quo as long as possible so at least THEIR golden parachute won't get lost. Can't you see the connection between business interest in the short term dollar v the long term effects we are causing on ourselves?
If people get their heads out of their collective assses, things can happen. Look at the Hudson River, you wouldn't have wanted the SPRAY to touch you much less drink the water but thanks to that leftwing nutter folk musician Pete Seeger and his boat the Clearwater, he singlehandedly started a movement that now is well on the way to cleaning up that dreadful river, where fish are actually returning. The same thing can happen to the whole planet too but not if we just refuse to see a problem and let the next couple hundred years go by ignoring the issue. The latest estimate of the cost shows it would be something like a quarter percent of the GNP. People spend more than that on TV guides.

Both extremes to this argument are ridiculous--the schmucks who think everything is fine, and people who focus on impending catastrophe to the exclusion of what, as you have rightly pointed out, is happening right under their noses. Governments and private enterprise could be doing a lot more to conscientise people about the issues you mention, but they prefer not to. Private individuals could be doing a lot more themselves, but they still prefer not to. Historically, it takes a catastrophe to jolt people out of their complacency, because they are just too lazy to care. In that sense, the doomsday scenario is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Wonkish issues have never been interesting to me anyway.

What are you donkeys gonna do in 5 years when the climate starts changing again? What's the fearmonger issue gonna be then? Has anyone else ever noticed that the radical "the world is doomed" crowd is always, without exception, wrong? Why woul cult. Its like going to the store and buying a TV that you know is going to start on fire.
"World is doomed" crowd makes me think of conservatives shrieking in fear about "them Ay-rabs". I suppose they are also guaranteed to be wrong then? Nothing to worry about in the Middle East...

So you hope that famous people will come and do the hard work for you? You are not going to change peoples belief systems when you sound like a crazy person. This singer showed people a problem and was able to get others to help. He didnt say 'look at this river... the whole world is going to starve to death...' if he did he would still be out there in his boat.

It's not famous people we need, famous people do nothing but litter their landscape with money. We need SMART people who can figure out how to get us out of our present mess. I don't have a doubt we can get the job done and have a nice pristine planet again, well as good as we could expect given we have already driven so many species to extinction and what after all makes for a good ecology but biological diversity. I am not preaching doom, I am preaching a real decrease in the world standard of living if we continue to ignore the issues of global warming. I have already taken up the local superfund site with the incredibly dense city so-called fathers. You have to whack them upside of the head with a 2X4 to get their attention. That frigging superfund site 2 blocks away has been poisoning our water for 30 years that I know of, it used to be a small quarry but then abandoned and water starts filling it up, its a block from the Lehigh river and then people started dumping old tires and gas cans or whatever else they could over the side. Now the city thinks they can get rid of the problem by allowing people to just fill it up with junk. They wouldn't THINK of actually having the city workers actually getting their hands dirty and removing all the floating tires and such. Too much like work.

I haven't been to church since I was drug there by my parents when I was 8. Which is exactly why I'm not worried. I'm skeptical that you can, within a few decades, spot a long term trend in an ecosystem that's millions of years old.

And its not 6000 years. Its closer to 4400 years I think. (help me out guys)
