I have a lot of mp3 files - whole albums - on my hard disk. I downloaded them from links I found on blogs and also using peer-to-peer software. I want to atone. Who should I turn myself over to? What exactly would I be charged with? Would I be fined or gaoled? What would be the punishment for, say, 100 albums? What about, er... 11,682 albums? Should I ask for all the cassettes I made of friends' LPs in the 1970s and 1980s to be taken into consideration when I am charged? Might it be possible to make some sort of plea bargain by detailing who I'd got the music from? Would the artists whose music I was collecting benefit directly from my prosecution e.g. be compensated in any way? What effect would my conviction have on my life once I'f paid my debt to society?

well, are you selling those albums? if not, you shouldn't be hanged. you are just not a very nice persons.
buying an album means you support the band you like. you should support the band you like when they are singing for food in shabby clubs and sleeping in the van so you could listen to their music. then you should definitely buy their albums.
however in the case of metallica or britney spears who will have to sell their big jet and buy a p00pier(apparently i can't say cr*p on forums) small private airplane i say download your heart out. you pay a lot of money as it is to get into their concert
so next time you think of downloading a britney spears album, just think of the poor britney who will have to travel in a p00py small private jet because you are too cheap to buy her awesome music

Its kind of Ironic that the bigger bands are the ones fighting for tougher prosecutions of music "thieves".... And smaller bands don't seem to care that much......

The reason its insulting is because it was the 3rd such letter... They've agreed to shut down only when Swedish law changes, which it will probably never do....
