I don't know even one person that thought it was a success.
It suffered from the same problem that seems to be going around nowadays. Insufficient steel on target.
There's a whole thread from back in August with people saying how it was a great success for Israel. Ask Ivanhoe, for one.

People like me?
Why do you insist on dragging every single debate you enter into the gutter of personal attack?

YOU made the statement; how is my post a "personal attack"?
This implies that I kill indiscriminately. It can imply nothing else.
Cluebat in 3..2..1..
That's a personal attack. You can't seem to help yourself from flinging them. You're a hack.
And then to say that I made the statement is beyond ridiculous. Stop wearing your a$$ as a hat, Maude.
Rail against war all you want. Strategically speaking, the reason the miltary objective was not obtained, was INSUFFICIENT STEEL ON TARGET.
Go chase an ambulance, loser.

Did you just see that? I think that guy was victimized by big business. I think he's in desperate need of a liti-gator.
Surely that bowling ball he dropped should have been much softer. It would not have broken his toe if it was soft. This is gross negligence on the part of the manufacturer.
Know any good lawyer jokes?
I would appreciate it if you saved your unwarranted personal attacks for others. I will not accept it without reciprocity.
Originally posted by MerkI really don't think that this was the issue. The reason it failed was because it dragged on too long and Israel changed from victim to invader. World opinion would not have soured so quickly if they had hit it and quit it, as they say.

Turning towns to rubble rarely has the desired effect, as someone else has mentioned in this thread, but it will quickly turn the world against you. Especially in the age of instant media.
Originally posted by CliffLandinThat's my point exactly. We agree there. Turning buildings to rubble is bad PR, and if your Israel, you better have the best reason in the world for it. The fact is, this guy was an Airforce guy and had no business being in charge at war time. A lot of pilots are smart, but their expertise is not in an area that allows them to truely understand the importance of troops or logistics.

Airpower is fabulous, but it can't make up for proper use of soldiers in an area as sensitive as Lebanon. Airpower and artillery can quickly become a liability when world opinion is already against you as is the case with Israel. Again, steel on target. Not bombs on target.

You'll lose this one. no1 has superhuman endurance for this sort of thing.
