Charles Kennedy: said he didn't have a drink problem...when he did
Mark Oaten: said he was a family man, and yet uses rent boys.
Simon Hughes: "I am not gay" but I do sleep with men.
These are just the leaders or wannabe leaders.
It is not what they do that is important it is the denial that is important.
Don't they realise as a politician you can do anything these days as long as you are upfront, honest and open about it.
It is a shame it would be good to have a credible opposition to New Labour.
Does anyone else remember the vicious, homophobic campaign Hughes ran (was it 1983?) to win the seat in the 1st place?
The labour candidate was Peter Tatchell, and Hughes ran a campaign describing himself as 'the straight candidate'. They picked up on Tatchell's republican views, and had a leaflet with a photo of the queen and Tatchell and a tag-line 'vote for this queen, and not this one'. As well as the homophobic graffiti which suddenly appeared across the constituency. Etc etc.
What a hypocrite. Party of integrity? Don't think so.

- secondly I believe the leaflet you refer to said - 'the straight choice'- which infers a less obvious reference to sexuality.
- the leaflet was produced by Lib Dem central office not hughes personally
- Peter Tatchell and Simon Hughes has subsequently become friends
The principal reason for this is they are both hard working passionate politicians.
I've met or seen Simon Hughes on several occaisions he is hard working and honest. He should be the next leader in my opinion.
are the libdems as irrelevant to the outcomes of english elections as the democrats have become in australia? although laudable, the humanist rambling of politicians whose party will make little or no impact at the polls surely gets a free go when it comes to the big statement.
I hope i'm not wrong in this, but it always seems the way that pollies only seem to have balls when they have no conceivable chance of wielding power.
can anyone explain why the sexual proclivities of anyone in the public eye is still a concern for us? is it the slow news week syndrome or is it tabloid spam that we ultimately by our consumption of it encourage the buggers to maintain their drip feed schedule of this inane tripe.

Hughes has to take some of the responsibility, at least.
I think you're right that it was the 'straight choice', but given the tone of the campaign, I think the message was clear.
Rank hypocrisy, from the party and the individual.

It is quite apt that Simon Hughes ends the week claiming to be not gay, not straight, but bisexual: evidently the Lib-Dems' notorious inability to make their minds up about anything at all extends all the way to the bedroom.

I think it would may have been more dishonest of
Kennedy to say he had one if he didn't really believe it.
He then went on admit, maybe as much to himself,
that it was a problem.
I don't think he lacked integrity at all, I think he was
just being human.
Denial however is only a symptom of homosexuality
before the act.
