sad to say I gave you are prime example with Viet Nam but you are not man enough to admit it.
And the Vietcong were only part of it. There was the NVA as well.
Maybe someone should define “conventional”, so that the definition is clear.

To learn from the American experience in Vietnam one must understand the nature of the war that was fought there. At no time was it a conventional war; from beginning to end it was a people's or revolutionary war in which both irregular and conventional forces played important roles.
You may be able to win a war - the USA wasn't in Vietnam's jungles, Russia may on Ukraine's plains - but you will also have to win the peace.
Militias may not win the war for Ukraine, but they will stop Putin from winning the peace afterwards. Ukraine will prove a nightmare for Russian soldiers. Every single civilian will be against them.

'Lone wolves,' taking pot shots.....not much.
Organized resistance, a la, WWII French, Afghani,
and, how quick we forget, those, 'Viet Cong.
Leadership of civilian, militia forces is key,
along with close co-ordination with regular army forces.
