Not a lot of good news for ACORN lately:
Eric L. Jones, 20, pleaded guilty to four of 93 charges filed in May by Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. As part of the deal, Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski sentenced Jones to two years of probation.
Defense attorney Scott Coffey told the judge Jones accepted responsibility for his actions, "but he was basically a foot soldier, and it was his supervisors who were really responsible. He has cooperated and will cooperate in the future."
Jones was one of seven people charged in the local investigation of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN. He is the first to be convicted, albeit on reduced charges of forgery, falsification and interference.

A former employee of an embattled community organizing group pleaded guilty Tuesday to voter fraud in connection with the 2008 presidential election.
Maria Miles, 37, of Milwaukee, admitted to submitting multiple voter registration applications for some people and to scheming with other Association of Community Organization for Reform workers to sign people up several times in an effort to meet the organization’s voter registration quotas.
Miles faces up to 3 ½ years in prison at her sentencing before Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Richard Sankovitz on Oct. 15.

3 convictions of the thousands of people that work for ACORN is hardly an indictment of the whole organization.
Originally posted by CliffLandinSo Congress decides to defund ACORN after Beck exposed them and this means nothing?

Let me guess, you are like the general. Beck either is 100% right all the time or 100% none of the time.
Originally posted by CliffLandinSo Beck is telling Congress what to do now and forcing them to jump the gun?
It means that congress jumped the gun and made a decision without all the facts. Surprise, surprise.
If memory serves, the Democrats were the ones who defunded ACORN. What is wrong with this picture do you think?
Originally posted by whodeyIt was a Democratic congress, but it was an amendment that were added by Republicans and was added as one of dozens of amendments to a much larger bill. Once it was passed many Congressmen expressed surprise that it was even in there, which points to a much larger problem.

Look, you can try to vilify ACORN, but you are really showing your ignorance by doing so. ACORN has done way more good than bad. The attacks on ACORN by Beck and others were just political theater. They were a victim of their own success. They got out the voters in their neighborhoods and those voters voted Democratic. The Democrats won big, so ACORN became the Republican's bogey man.
Simple.
Originally posted by whodeyThe thing that's wrong with this picture is that fact that at least some Democrats are afraid of what Beck might say about them. (as was made embarassingly clear during the whole Shirley Sherrod travesty).

Originally posted by CliffLandinThere really should be some rule requiring that everyone in Congress (or a member of their staff) has to actually READ every single thing that they vote on. There is absolutely NO excuse for "being surprised" that something was in the bill you just voted on. Anyone showing they're unwilling or unable to thoroughly read legislation should be subject to impeachment on the grounds of incompetence.

edit: that whole fiasco was started by the "lame stream media"
