We seem to go round and round in circles debating whether global warming exists and trying to discredit the opponent's scientific evidence. Here's how I see it:
- Humans are a species in an ecosystem, just like any other species.
- Every ecosystem has a finite number of resources.
- If one species in an ecosystem overpopulates and starts using up all the resources, they will eventually destroy the stability of the ecosystem and it will collapse.
- humans are not an exception to this rule.
Therefore, it makes good sense, since we are a very overpopulated species, to try to minimise our use of resources and prolong our ecosystem. This also makes good sense, in the shorter term, from an economic perspective (If I use less power, I have a lower power bill). So why waste time argueing over whether global warming exists, when it is obviously a good idea to follow it's prevention principles (i.e. resource minimisation) regardless.

It's a funny old world!

It would probably be better for the survival of the human race as a whole if we did all of these things. However, nobody wants it to be them that doesn't get selected. I for one would not be alive today if it wasn't for modern medicine. We could, however, feed all of the world's population several times over with curent grain production. The fact that this doesn't happen tells me that there is still that selfish will to survive at the expense of others in all of us.

Originally posted by der schwarze RitterThanks! I don't know about elitist, but I'm happy to be called a green (why would I not be). The predictions of Thomas Malthus have to do with famine, which I explained in my last post is only a huge problem today because of vastly unevenly distributed resources. There are many other ways to die than starving, and history has shown that if you continue to change an ecosystem it will eventually not be able to support the life forms that it once did.

Should we turn off our computers?
Probably, but I think that if I can get people to think about saving energy in other ways, it will be worth the energy used to write this. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm hopeful.
Let's start with something simple, like turning appliances off at the wall when you're not not using them.
It rained last night .. hard.
It made some noise and I thought for a minute that the sky was falling .. but it didn't.
Today we have storm surf (sweet) 6-10 ft .. and the sun came up.
I caught a few good rides and then got crushed in a big set .. two 14 yr olds pulled me up on shore and we smoked a big fatty.
It close but I think it might be OK after all.

Turn off your computer .. give it a rest.

I think almost everytime you post you spew ignorance, arrogance, and a total absence of any credibilty .. but don't let that stop you ... Howie loves it.
You have a fan .. now go pull your pud and visualize him.

I mean calling someone a child and arrogant then proceeding to post exactly the same thing you are berating other for is astoundingly stupid. It does wonders for your credibility too when all you do is insult people and not actually add anything intelligent to these forums.
Originally posted by jammerYet again, you cannot attack my arguements so you attack me. Not a very good debate strategy. If you would like to discuss the topic, feel free. Otherwise, I would appreciate it if you would stop ranting on about me, as it is getting tiresome.
