No question, would rather have Phil and Shaq. I, for one, am tired of how our society caters to children who happen to excel at sports. I just finished watching Randy Moss's shenanigans during the Vikings/Packers game.
It's digusting how professions that "contribute" to society such as teachers are paid so poorly whereas if you can catch a ball or ...[text shortened]... and the people who are paid to play them forget that they are an extension of "entertainment".

And that's exactly what Kobe has. Kobe is the type of player that'll drop 50, 8 & 7 on you any given night. He can create his own shot off the dribble and his defense is crazy right now!
Coach Phil jackson said he could not stay at the LA Lakers as long as Kobe was there! If you were in charge would you rather have PHil and shaq or Kobe?
He has a tendency to shoot a tad too much, but all in all, he's one of the best in the game.
Shaq is only good for low post playing. He can't step out to the 3, he doesn't have a very good jumper and his free throw shooting is horrible. But, and there is a but, when he's on his game, it's over! He's dropping 30+ on you....bottom line.
They are both good, but Kobe has more gas in the tank. In my opinion that is.

you know what i think suns no matter what.yes the west is weak this year but so is the east. lakers lost today against the sonics. so i dont know about saying the west is worst then the east that is false. new question who is the most dominate team in the west and east. mine sus, sonics.
But you have to look at what the Sonics have been doing. Who can stop Ray Allen's 3 ball? Rashard Lewis is a 20+ man every night and their supporting cast is nice as well. I think the Spurs have it.....
Originally posted by mikebec20Well I think you make a good point but I guess I feel the league goes as Shaq goes. Maybe the West is still the stronger division but I guess I just think the power has shifted to the East although everything you bring up seems to shatter my opinion 🙂 Perhaps I should have rephrased that it is my "prediction" is the East will become stronger.
i'm a diehard suns fan and am loving the way they are playin right now.
however, one question for you joe.
how is the west the weaker conference because of one player?
they still have kg, duncan, kobe (no matter what anyone says, he still is one of the top three players in the leage), and they brought in Tmac. throw in Amare, marion, dirk, and nash and i think the west is still by far the better conference

I was never a superhuge Shaq fan but I think the league is going to suffer greatly when he retires. Despite everything, he is somewhat of a class guy, perhaps the last of them save Duncan.

As far as a pure one on one player, I think Kobe was maybe better than MJ at his best...I know that's is questionable but I don't think there was a huge difference between their play.
Originally posted by Joe FistI think he's starting to. He knows that he can't do it all by himself. When Shaq was there, Kobe was the second option being that Shaq was double all the time. Now that it's Kobe's turn, his assist have been up and he's becoming an ALL AROUND PLAYER instead of the ONE ON ONE PLAYER he was when Shaq was there. It's going to take some time, but he'll get there.

As far as being on MJ's level...that will never happen. At least, I don't think it will. MJ was in his own league. They do have some similarities, but MJ has him beat.
Now, if Kobe were to be like Lebron, now THAT would be like whoa!
Originally posted by Joe FistIf the Suns are the team to beat you should have seen the game they got trounced by the Spurs.
No I agree that the Suns are possibly the team to beat in the West but I think the West are now the weaker the division since the breakup of the Lakers. What was so great about the Pistons winning last year was that, I think, they played "team basketball". Sure they have both Wallaces and a few other notables but they outplayed the Lakers.
I think th ...[text shortened]... out to prove a point. He has a team around him that will support his quest and let him lead.
Duncan, Ginobli, Parker, Bowen make the Spurs the best in the west.
They have a rookie named Udrih from eastern Europe who looks great.
Their only weak link is at center.
