I agree. More self-policing on the ice.

You never saw Gretzky getting clutched and grabbed. 'Cuz if you did, "Cementhead" Semenko or "Misdemeanor" McSorley would come over and pound you into oblivion. Why can't it still be like that?

Bettman wants the league to be pc. Aren't you glad he's thinking of your best interest?

You know, I gotta tell ya, I know that the players feel like they got screwed, but it's a good deal for hockey. Revenue sharing and a salary cap will let the Canadian teams compete and they were dying. The NHL without the Montreal Canadiens...well, you might as well not have an NHL.
The Canadiens, the Maple Leafs, and the Canucks have enough money to keep up with the big boys, but it's the Oilers and the Flames that need a little helping hand... the poor bastards.

The new rules will make it much more difficult to make a line change. Will this make teams more cautious, thus slowing down the speed of the game?

Hey man, how can a Canadian team compete when they're taking in Canadian dollars and paying salaries in American dollars. A little socialism is good in this situation. At least for me. I frickin' love hockey.
They can compete because many Canadian players (arguably the producer of the best all-around players) will choose to play with these teams and not complain about taxes, their kids having to learn the Canadian National Anthem (as Antonio Davis did while he was with the Raptors), the currency, the cold, and any other lame excuse that your typical selfish athlete can conjure up.

Many great hockey players dream of playing with the Leafs or Habs because they grew up watching and rooting for those teams. Alas, Hockey is arguably the only sport where this logic comes into play. Baseball and Basketball - forget it! Players would rather take a pay cut than come and play for us.

Philly is a super hockey town though. And your Flyers always give the Leafs a run for their money in the playoffs every year. I still die a thousand deaths whenever I recall JR sniping that OT winner against us last year....

Dunno if any of you are old enough to remember the intermission shootouts on HNIC back in the day. That was great. I like the shootout rule, to be honest...although maybe not in the playoffs.

I assumed they wouldn't be done in the playoffs! If they are then I may have to take a trip down to head office myself and bust a few heads.

So, they moved the nets closer to the boards. Do you know why they originally moved the nets away from the boards? To create more offense. Do you know why they're moving the nets back closer to the boards? To create more offense. hmmm.

The most absurd rule is fining the coaches when the players fight.

Also, during the shootout, the defending team should be allowed to have one trained attack polar bear on the ice when the other team is shooting.

Any thoughts on all the free agent signings/trades going on in the league since Monday?

The Flyers picked up a nice corps of defencemen. The Oilers get Pronger.

Leafs get sweet F.A.
