I don't like how both parties are so easily bought either. While I do think that business interests do have an effect on a war, I'm not convinced that business is the only reason America goes to war.
One of the reasons I think that Americans aren't all that worried about going to war with a country like Iraq is because of confidence in our forces. Kill rati ...[text shortened]... Would Americans have been less receptive to war in Iraq if our forces weren't so superior?
This American is seriously worried about going to war with any nation, but especially a nation that we had no business invading to begin with. Perhaps that was because we were in the Vietnam for almost my entire childhood, our POWs not returning until I was in high school. I do not take the notion of war lightly.
Exactly in what area am I supposed to be confident about "our" forces? I'm still confused as to what their actual purpose there is. But I don't see that much has been accomplished that would inspire me to resume hanging out the flag I took down the day we invaded.
I am not receptive to any unjust war or invasion of another sovereign nation without overwhelming justification. There was no justification at all in this case, and the resources and lives wasted could've been better spent elsewhere.
Unfortunately, there are many people in my town who think as you do, but they are people whose reading lists are limited to tee shirts and bumper stickers, and whose biggest fears revolve around whether or not WalMart is going to build a store in our town.

As those who read this forum know, I am a vehement opponent of US troops in Iraq and a supporter of their withdrawal ASAP.
However, I think a "non-binding" resolution is a complete waste of time and political grandstanding. The US Legislative Branch has the power (i.e. the power to spend public money as it sees fit) to block further deployment ...[text shortened]... of another nation (if they serve any purpose in any case is dubious).

sure, i want the troops away from those maniacs, but its either fight em here or there...

That's not entirely true. Terrorists existed in the middle east before U.S. troops did.
The post was about terrorism in the US not the middle east.
Sure there will always be terrorists, it is an unfortunate product of a free world.
