Well, not talking to people has done what?
Refusing to talk to Cuba had done SO much good. Cuba's practically a democracy now since that method has worked so well!

and even if it had been successful, that doesn't make it a democracy.

My point was that our policy of the embargo and ignoring their existence has NOT turned them into a democracy and hasn't forced them to be any better than they were before.
The point is that our prior policy has not worked, so why should we continue it?

oops, my bad.

true. I think it possibly created even more anti-american sentiment in the region.

because nobody has found an alternative?
well, you could start talking to Cuba again, but there is no guarantee that would make it a democracy either.
and an invasion is unthinkable right now.

Bowing? Oh yeah, that's about as bad as Bush taking romantic hand in hand strolls in the park with them.
Giving the ghetto bump (whatever that really is) to dictators? You mean Chav ...[text shortened]... to open dialog to these countries. Refusing to even talk to people has caused ZERO progress.

The alternative is to start a dialog at the very least. Talking doesn't mean that we just throw all our support to them or that we let them park nukes on our doorstep.
Talking means we just talk. We express to them what we want and we listen to what they want. It isn't quick necessarily, but at least it can lead to something more than the embargo that was doing absolutely nothing to help cuba become a democracy.
