Caraveo conceded in Colorado 8, which puts Republicans at 217 in the House, or one away from a majority.
So, with the next race to fall to the GOP (probably Ciscomani in AZ-6), Republicans will clinch majorities in all three branches of government.
I don't think they will kill the filibuster, since:
1. You can do a lot of stuff through reconciliation, including tax bills.
2. the laws Trump wants on the border are already on the books for the most part. They just need to be enforced.
I also don't think Trump really has any interest in getting anything extreme passed, such as an abortion ban or the like (which would require a lot more than 218 seats).
I do wonder if they'll take another shot at repealing the ACA, which could be done through reconciliation. I don't think so, but we'll see.
@sh76 saidA great idea; take away health insurance for 40 million Americans, a chunk of whom voted GOP this time.

That'll learn 'em.
@no1marauder saidLearning the hard way - but hey, I do believe that's how they learn! 😆

That'll learn 'em.
Could be the best thing for 'em.
@sh76 saidThey will most definitely kill it. Remember Republicans saying presidents shouldn't fill SCOTUS seats in an election year? How'd that go?
I don't think they will kill the filibuster
Trump already called for it to be abolished in 2017. He'll make sure that happens this time.
The Filibuster is gone.
@vivify saidWanna bet? 😉

Forever is a long time, obviously, but I don't think they'll do it in, say, the first, 6 months of 2025.
@no1marauder saidWon't make a difference, just like overturning Roe didn't.

Controlling all branches of government will make voter suppression easy. SCOTUS will rule in favor of any voter suppression law that benefits Republicans.
@vivify saidThe final numbers aren't in yet, but it seems likely total turnout will approach the 2020 record.

Voter suppression just doesn't work and almost all the swing States have Democratic governors now (I think Georgia is the only exception) and can block any more restrictive laws Republican legislators might desire.
@no1marauder saidIt doesn't have to be through the Senate. Republicans can create laws they know will be overturned by lower courts until SCOTUS rules in their favor.

@vivify saidI don't share such paranoia.

After the 2016 election, Republicans had 52 Senate seats (they'll likely have 53 now) and 241 seats in the House (about 20 more than they wound up with now) but they hardly passed anything of significance but a big tax cut which went mostly to the wealthy. I have no reason to believe they'll accomplish anything more with a much smaller majority in the House.
@no1marauder saidAmazing you can say that after witnessing how Roe was overturned.
I don't share such paranoia.
I wish I had your blissful naïveté
@vivify saidI pity your ignorance of American politics.

This too will pass; the moaning about how this narrow victory for the GOP will result in the end of democracy are hysterical nonsense and Democrats shouldn't have relied on it so much in the campaign.
@no1marauder saidA convicted felon who incited a riot on the Capitol to overturn an election is president.

STFU.
@vivify saidNot an ideal situation but not the end of US democracy either.
