Ok, people, last night while surfing the TV channels I decided to do
something for the 1st time in my life: I paid attention to MTV.

I was utterly disgusted:

* Jackarse
* Filthy Sanchez
* Strutter (a bad copy of Sean Penn's lawyer at Carlito's Way)
* And lots of stuff like that.

Come on, those people really rejoice themselves in political
incorrectenss in such a simple, childish, stupid way that they resemble
monkeys. They think they are so daring and shocking, and there are
so many of them, that it is not shocking anymore nor it serves
the purpose of shaking the foundations of the establishment!

What happened to the REAL shockers like Lautreamont, Oscar
Wilde, and Voltaire?

Now we have an army of youngsters that feel so 'daring and
free' just because they do stunt stuff and say the 'F' word all the
time, burp, say "bad words" and make a medal out of their lack of
education and mediocrisy (sic).

I am no 100% fan of political correctness because many times such
boundary keeps away from us great intelectual and artistic work, but
neither I am a fan of such simplistic, pointless stupidity as the one
I saw last night and ( worst of all ) serves as a role model for
millions of kids who have no expectations about their future and get
their sense of belonging and trascendence by being "free", i.e. like
those MTV role models (or, worst of all, like the stupid, talentless
gangsta rappers).

Where is the middle point?
Where are the REAL free people?

This is what passes as modern American culture.

The music died a long time ago.

The whore .. Madonna, the kiddy-diddler .. Mikey Jackson and the pimp-thug .. 50 cent are the roll models presented to our children by such as MTV.

Meanwhile, the parents sit in the den having cocktails .. "Go watch TV with your big brother Suzy. Leave us alone."

More or less by accident, we gave up commercial TV about 4 years ago. So my 6-9 year old(s) have never seen MTV. In fact, they have rarely seen commercials. It was kind of an experiment at first -- instead, we started buying DVDs.

So the kind of things my kids see are old Disney live actions -- like Swiss Family Robinson, Old Yeller, and Davy Crockett. Johnny Tremain really surprised me -- they wanted that one over and over. Now they are into the Kurt Russell films like "Now You See Him, Now You Don't" and "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes." Remeber Dean Higgins and Medfield college?

Of course, we have lots of other stuff for variety: Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine. Justice League, Spiderman, Barbie, PBS cartoons, Tom and Jerry, etc. We are up ~ 160 kids DVDs by now. That's a lot of money, but how much would 4 years of cable have cost? I guess about the same.

They come home from school and get to choose 1 film to watch -- 1.5 hours, usually. And that's it for the day. No other TV.

Good idea. It'd be great if you could come up with a device to play nice soothing music or something instead of the adverts.

Lautreamont, Wilde and Voltaire were also appreciated by a minority at the time, if you consider that the bulk of the population didn't even read.

Things are not that different, in my opinion.

Yup, agreed on the 'nothing has changed' thing; even the Bible says
so: What was yesterday is today and will be tomorrow.

What annoys me is that those who are seen by the mass as
the "rebels" are NOT real ones, least useful ones for shaking
the consciences (sic) and revolutionizing thought and art.

So I go back to the question: where are they (today's real rebels, I
mean)? WHo are they?

Certainly not in the mainstream, where the cloned 'fake rebels' are.

Edit. It annoys me that what the mass media is trying to sell as
"freedom" (and they do it successfully it seems) it is THE CONTRARY!

~Its a sad state off affairs, but then again you have too look at who MTV is aimed at --- 16 -25 I'd say in general

So its not surprising that such stuff is on TV.

However, if you get MTV Base, YOMOMMO is quite funny.

Very childest, like when your at school and you take the piss out off the kids mum, but funny
