One of the biggest infringements on our personal liberty is political correctness. You can't have an opinion that goes against certain groups, otherwise you are going to suffer the consequences.
What's up with that?
Say that the president was being a tool and you get fired.
Crack jokes about the wrong group and you get pulled on the carpet and forced to apologize.
Make a comment about how you don't like your flight crew and the reasons for it and you get suspended and sent to sensitivity training.
This stuff is absolute crap. A person should be able to say whatever he or she sees fit and people who don't like it should just get over it. Political correctness is not in the Constitution. Courts have no right to force it upon society, but who has the power to overturn the courts?
Pass a Constitutional amendment to allow for freedom of speech and all the courts need to do is say "well that's not the meaning of the amendment and political correctness stays".
If I'm wrong and poltical corrrectness is not enforced by the courts, then why would any company care?
Originally posted by EladarPerhaps you could point to some Court decision mandating "political correctness".

Poltical Correctness is a cancer which is is devestating our country.

Exactly. I'd like to see the US go back to the way things used to be. I'd like to see the US allow for individual freedom.
Define "the way things used to be."
Abstractions allow enough room for anybody to feel as though his or her "liberty" were "violated."

I think he was referring more to pre 1990's. Not the 1800's.
The 90's was the beginning of it w/ the term homo-phobe being coined. At least in my memory.
Then from there it just snow balled.
Those were the days.

Really? Given the times we live in one would imagine that there are greater threats to "our personal liberty" than political correctness, anti-terrorism legislation comes to mind.
What exactly is the alternative to political correctness that you are proposing here? In your view do you think there should be no consequences to inflammatory, or spiteful speech or acts directed at minorities or women?
Political correctness is not in the Constitution
Well, despite being written down by Holy and Infallible Founding Fathers there's plenty of things which are not mentioned in the US constitution which have nevertheless developed in the american political culture, to determine the validity of something by looking at whether it appears in the constitution is simply daft.

Are you saying your abilities with the interpretation of the law surpass that of those sitting in the US Supreme Court? Are you saying the Court should be deprived of their constitutionally-prescribed role on the grounds that their decisions, and the reasoning behind them, are not in harmony with your own borderline extremist right-wing views?
Sticks and stones
will break my bones
but names will never hurt me.
of course this isnt true and the antiquity of slander laws demonstrates that that has long been acknowledged.
surely everyone should be able to live a life without abuse? Granted; PC rules do sometimes go over the top, but surely that is preferable to allowing unhappiness for many?
What minority group do you belong to? (short? fat? impotent? ugly? ethnic? ginger?) can you imagine being taunted about it daily? How would that make you feel?
How does it make you feel wanting to be politically incorrect?
