In this article, the proposition of future sexual relationships with robots and other artificial entities is described. the Question that got me was this...

"whether a sexbot in every home, a Kama Sutra on legs that never tires, never says no, and never has needs of its own is what we really want?"

Is it possible that humans will one day have meaningful sexual (and possibly even emotional) relationships with artificial entities?
If so, is it right and why would we be inclined or disinclined to do so?

Nobody is going to build a sex robot so they can have a "meaningful" sexual relationship.

Feeling frisky these days? Thoughts turning to love?

Try the new sex-o-matic 6000! It walks it talks it cooks it launders!

And all for the piffling sum of ... well, call now and see what we can do for you!

I would recommend Cliff Pickover for some very interesting ideas on what may be coming at us in due course.

I think they would serve the same function as a hooker... would they be self cleaning?

I love my girlfriend and it would never trade her for a machine.

Modern Japanese culture has a lot to say on the subject.
Ghost in the Shell features geisha-bots. Sometimes they go haywire, or are hacked into and murder their clients.

But the fact that robots do not have much of a soul does not stop humans from having meaningful relationships with machinery. Simply look at cars and computers. Most men I know spend far more time with their car, TV, computer then they would ever choose to spend with their significant other.

Why is that I wonder?

There are plenty of people with weird fetishes who think they have meaningful relationships with their cars, furniture, statues, sex dolls, etc.
