Diplomats at the UN are working on a resolution proposing sanctions against Iran for its refusal to halt controversial nuclear activities.
Officials from the UK, France and Germany are developing the draft text.
They aim to introduce the draft resolution to the UN Security Council next week.
But Iran's chief negotiator warned that a UN resolution would be counter-productive and push back any chance of an agreement.

Do you favour the above course of action of imposing sanctions on Iran or do you believe further talks are the solution to the Iranian issue ?

If any nation holds nuclear weapons, then I think it's wrong for them to stop any other nation from having them. I don't think anyone should have them... This is a stance that New Zealand has held, fought against and died for.
i'd rather there were no nukes at all, but seeing as there is, then the less countries with them the better surely?
Originally posted by ivanhoeOther countries have to give up on the idea of stopping Iran from enriching uranium, something that many countries with civilian nuclear programs do. The best solution would be a Nuclear Free Zone throughout the entire Middle East (backed by robust inspections) as proposed by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists.

Did sanctions ever achieve anything (please pardon my ignorance)?
not sure myself, but a south african friend reckons they helped put pressure on the appartheid regime, but beyond pressure and suffering for the general populace (depending upon the sanctions) i can't think where they have been truly effective....

I do however see a need for N Korea to have them as a defence against the crimes of America. I read in that article sanctions have a ...[text shortened]... h underground Nuke testing and underground sanctions... as asian people are very intelligent.
I guess that's why China, Japan and South Korea so strongly oppose North Korea to develop and produce nuclear weapons.

good question!

Not very often is my feeling. But I could be wrong.
Originally posted by ivanhoeI just hope that if they do put sanctions on Iran, that the same will go for the US and Britain when they next update their armament.
