[b]Maybe that is the situation in the US.
However, having lived in some latin american countries (which are overwhelmingly catholic), I found that people believed in catholicism, and still used contraception.
Do you think people there are less catholic because they do that?
This is not my opinion. It's ...[text shortened]... the authority to say 'I'm a Roman Catholic, even if Rome says I'm
not.'

Well, if I follow what you said, I realize that pretty much 80% of catholics (in places where I lived at least) think the same as me, so I guess the number of the so-called ''real" catholics must be very small then.

Magesterium of the Church. When that priest did so, he did so against the
teachings of the Church and thus was in error. It would be no different than
a priest who said that the Trinity didn't exist. It's a promulgated teaching of
the Church which by definition of the Church is incapable of containing error.
Again: this is not my opinion. This is what the Church teaches.
And, yes, more than 80% of so-called Catholics are those who practice the
faith selectively in direct contrast with the teachings of the Church that they
claim to follow, just like you.

They do say something like that in the catechism.

and strive to avoid them. Generalissimo is not saying 'I masturbate, but I'm
sorry for it and I try to avoid it.' He's saying, 'I can decide for myself what is
and is not a sin; I don't need the Church to tell me what a sin is.'

from the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, which she takes to be
an infallible moral teaching 2352:
"Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition,
and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly
maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."
It doesn't matter whether Generalissimo disagrees or not, or whether some
priest said he disagrees, to do so is in direct contrast with the teachings
of the Roman Catholic Church. Unless the Church suddenly decides that
its teachings have the potential to be in error (fat chance), and then decides
that this specific teaching is in error (fat chance), Generalissimo is simply
not a Roman Catholic, because Roman Catholicism entails the submission
of intellect and will to its teachings by definition.

I mean, it's hypocritical to attend a Church that professes one thing while you
believe another. Why do you persist in it? Comfort? Familiarity?

I might be joining them if the ''true'' catholic church decides to kick me out, they haven't expressed any opposition to my point of view, so I still go to the ''true'' catholic church.
