However, having lived in some latin american countries (which are overwhelmingly catholic), I found that people believed in catholicism, and still used contraception.

Do you think people there are less catholic because they do that?

This is not my opinion. It's ...[text shortened]... the authority to say 'I'm a Roman Catholic, even if Rome says I'm
not.'

When I was in Brazil I talked to the priest about my opinions on the church, and he was okay with it.

Well, if I follow what you said, I realize that pretty much 80% of catholics (in places where I lived at least) think the same as me, so I guess the number of the so-called ''real" catholics must be very small then.

Having seen you defend porn on a previous thread the fact that you masturbate comes as an absolute shock!! 😲

A priest does not have the authority to override the teachings of the
Magesterium of the Church. When that priest did so, he did so against the
teachings of the Church and thus was in error. It would be no different than
a priest who said that the Trinity didn't exist. It's a promulgated teaching of
the Church which by definition of the Church is incapable of containing error.

Again: this is not my opinion. This is what the Church teaches.

And, yes, more than 80% of so-called Catholics are those who practice the
faith selectively in direct contrast with the teachings of the Church that they
claim to follow, just like you.

So "true" Catholics never indulge in that private thrill, eh? Too bad no one thought to also add "Thou shalt not shag the altar boys" into the teachings of the Magesteriwhatsit. Would have saved a lot of trouble. I guess they just never saw it coming.

"Thou shalt not shag the altar boys"

They do say something like that in the catechism.

No. True Roman Catholics sin. But true Roman Catholics repent of their sins
and strive to avoid them. Generalissimo is not saying 'I masturbate, but I'm
sorry for it and I try to avoid it.' He's saying, 'I can decide for myself what is
and is not a sin; I don't need the Church to tell me what a sin is.'

Confer: http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a6.htm#II

from the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, which she takes to be
an infallible moral teaching 2352:

"Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition,
and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly
maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."

It doesn't matter whether Generalissimo disagrees or not, or whether some
priest said he disagrees, to do so is in direct contrast with the teachings
of the Roman Catholic Church
. Unless the Church suddenly decides that
its teachings have the potential to be in error (fat chance), and then decides
that this specific teaching is in error (fat chance), Generalissimo is simply
not a Roman Catholic, because Roman Catholicism entails the submission
of intellect and will to its teachings by definition.

Ah yes. So you sin and still be a Roman Catholic as long as you feel bad about it. I actually understood the distinction. I was just joking around trying to make a play on words but got no love for it.

I'll let God judge me.

It is true what you said about the church's teachings, and I hope that they will change in the future, just like they have changed in the past.

Why do you persist in pretending to be a Roman Catholic? I mean, why not
join a denomination that admits of doctrinal disagreement like the Episcopal
Church?

I mean, it's hypocritical to attend a Church that professes one thing while you
believe another. Why do you persist in it? Comfort? Familiarity?

There is an independent catholic church in Brazil, didn't you know?

I might be joining them if the ''true'' catholic church decides to kick me out, they haven't expressed any opposition to my point of view, so I still go to the ''true'' catholic church.

Why do you attend a Church that insists you agree with it if, in fact, you
do not agree with it? Why embrace hypocrisy?
