@averagejoe1 saidOnly a person like you could celebrate the fact that tens of thousands of your fellow Americans are dying every year because they lack basic health care coverage.
Each person has their own definition. My cousin’s is speed of his skis. So, he aspires to being faster.
Trump cuts regulations left and right, promotes enterprise, independence, making USA wide open with opportunity. So my other cousin sees that, and sets goals for HIS greatness. He can then have a life with Chevy, or aspire to BMW. Buy health insurance, or blow mo ...[text shortened]... same size, $4.95. Aspire in between, maybe?
Am I still missing something,? What is the deal?

@mghrn55 saidWell, our MILITARY is 180 times better than yours!! I guess we have to allocate a lot of our resources to military, but we sure can afford a German BMW if we work hard, though some people just desire to make enough for bus fare. We all have choices, one job, 2 jobs. All while we protect ourselves, and protect Canada, and everyone else, with our military.πππβΊοΈ
Yeah. You're missing something alright.
Why is a country that isn't as great as yours making better automobiles than yours ?
I wish to not hurt your feelings, but since you brought up autos, the automotive industry in Canada consists primarily of the assembly plants. Do you not have your own cars????????? Why, I don’t believe I would’ve told that!π

Yes, i guess you do, but you might disvover that people who’ve planned balanced lives can afford more complete heslthcare than can people who havent planned, have too much debt, kids that they cannot afford, you know the drill.

Impossible to have perfection, but Bernie/Waren dont know that!!!! Their Not-plan is un-attainable.
@zahlanzi saidThat was interesting, thank you Zahlanzi. I don't know if Anands statistics were true, but if they were and taxing billionaires probably would mean a better life for everyone, then that's great. They still need to exist though, to be taxed.

Anand Giridharadas on the morality of billionaires.
In the UK there are 151 billionaires (I have no way of fact checking, but I'm assuming the BBC got that responsibly). The rise in the elite correspondences directly to the rise we have here in the underclass, the really poor, the living in poverty numbers increasing continuously.
Should money itself exist?

@yo-its-me saidMoney is necessay to make possible the ‘easy and efficient’ exchange of goods and services. One could hardly exchange 100 bales of cotton for a chevy Nova,.....assumingvthe car dealer even wants the cotton!

@divegeester saidLet's arbitrarily put it at 1billion. A six percent tax on wealth over 1 billion would have Bezos's obscene wealth naturally decrease over time and would probably take about 5 generations of bezoses juniors to go below that 1 billion line. With that, americans would get healthcare, college debt pardon and free college education. Perhaps fewer poor americans would join the marines to fight in US's endless wars.@zahlanzi said
Should billionaires exist?
where would you draw the "morality" line?
Let's start there. Like Anand says, if it turns out that turning billionaires into smaller and smaller billionaires isn't working out, we can go back to the old system.

@phranny saidor how you faint on the street from a simple heatstroke and someone calling an ambulance for you could bankrupt you
Many in the US cannot afford health insurance and many policies that are affordable are worthless once you are ill. The U.S. is the only industrialized democracy without universal healthcare. We are not talking about affording a car or steak or a TV.It is a matter of being able to live or death by disease. Using the ER is not health care. Many cancers are curable but if you ...[text shortened]... suppose you think it fair that some get to have their illnesses treated and others just get to die.

@averagejoe1 saidYes, every society in the developed world except the U.S. has universal health care coverage, and I don't think Americans are too stupid to pull it off as well.

Of course you are free to prefer your countrymen to continue dying easily preventable deaths.

you mentioned morality in your OP so I asked where you drew the moral line.

@kazetnagorra saidIf it's such a great idea, start a non-profit free healthcare scheme and have people sign up voluntarily, win/win all round.

@yo-its-me saidYo Its Me has pointed out that billionaires “ need to exist to be taxed”. Thank god somebody is saying that besides me. Libs are not too good with facts that destroy their premises.

Thatcher said ‘pretty soon you run out of other people’s money”. Libs got deaf ears on that one. Pretty soon you run out of rich people. I have been learning how to lay brick in case my net worth is confiscated. But hell, with no rich people, who will hire me to build their 2nd car garage!
