I enjoyed the display gurning, though the lack of comeback was disappointing.

Hurricane Katrina looks like it may distract attention from the war for a bit. Time for everyone to muster sympathy...

I wonder if Georgie Peorgie's going to chat with that woman camped outside his dude ranch.

I don't understand this comment. The US has had massive problems with the UN. You can't blame *everything* on the US.

Massive problems? You mean that the UN doesn't always do as it is told?

Ya I mean when the US is the biggest donor for UN why dont those clowns there support whatever the US says. I mean its democracy right so the person with the most money power is always right. And they even dare to threaten to veto the invasion of Iraq. It was a mistake to have given the veto to any other nation than the US . The US uses the veto well blocking any half-witted resolutions which is brought against Israel etc.

I think the Druid was being sarcastic, but your links are pertinent.

A perception I commonly encounter among Usanians is that the USA is somehow bankrolling the UN, Africa, you name it. Actually, as your links showm the USA owes the UN a lot of money.

Hypocrisy & self-righteousness have made the USA few friends in recent years.

The UK's GDP is less than one-fifth that of the USA. By that standard you should pay 5 times as much to the UN (400 million compared to 80 million). You pay relatively less than the UK does.

April 30, 1999:
The UK has paid its full 1999 dues leaving the US, Japan, Germany, Brazil and Argentina as the last major payers with outstanding debts to the UN. By this time, total US debt has swelled to $1.638 billion and accounts for 62% of the total debt owed to the UN.

The reason you're paying so much is because you're so heavily in
debt. The reason you're so heavily in debt is because you spent
all your money on guns. You then proceeded to have an enema of
you old munitions over Afghanistan so you could buy more new guns.

You then found yourself all dressed up with no-one to blow so you
steamrolled into Iraq, no doubt so you can justify buying bigger and
better guns.
