I think there's a clear relationship between IQ, EQ and suicide. The dumber you are, the less you know, the happier you'll be. The lower your EQ, the less you care, the happier you are. High EQ and IQ often equals depression in the world as it is today.
Needless to say, I have an extremely high IQ and EQ. π
your IQ doesn't seem to spill over into your chess game!

If you want to come to a reliable conclusion, yes. African Americans tend to score lower on an IQ test, but this is due to the fact that many IQ tests are standardised on the white middle class. You can also be trained to perform better in an IQ test. You have to take a lot into account when using IQ tests to measure intelligence.
I was only briefly involve with that crowd, some nice people but a lot of,er, wierdo's. I remember one guy playing the guitar really poorly and I offered to give him some lessons since that is one of my high skills, he goes, FORGET IT, I'll do it myself. (which is more or less how I did it but I know I would be light years ahead if I had actually taken on a real instructor) He was a bit nasty about it. Haven't been back to a mensa meeting in a few years. I guess we have the same mix of people here on RHP so I guess it goes with the territory.

Anyway, a mensa level IQ isn't high on my list of achievements, I feel a lot better about being an expert guitarist. That just took perserverance not brains. The only Mensa dude I liked was Ed Pugsley.
Roger Vesely was a good friend too but I blew it with him.

Originally posted by sonhouseLOL! Sounds familiar. The Toledo Mensa chapter actually made the national news a year or so after Fran and I quit attending meetings. The group had become more and more bizarre until we decided to drop out. Then one evening on the TV news we saw several of our old Mensa "friends" being arrested and charged with nude swimming and having sex in public at/in the swimming pool during a weekend Mensa get together at one of the major hotels in Toledo. One of the national directors of Mensa came from New York to straighten out the chapter. I'm not sure what happened after that, or if there even is a Toledo chapter anymore.

Well, hi there to you too, Mr 1474. π΅ Everyone knows that a high IQ doesn't necessarily improve your game. It can be quite the other way around actually. I mean, if you're depressed, how on earth can you be bothered to think much about chess?

Yeah, I got that. I'm not dumb, you know? π
I know perfectly good and well IQ doesn't corrolate much with chess ability. Did you read Van De Groot? He just died BTW. So with your book, is that opener just part of the first chapter? Do you plan to have some transformation to happen to the protagonist? That seems to be what people want, conflict resolved. Do you think you would do it better in Swedish? BTW, did we talk before about my daughter in law who is from Gotenberg? I talked to someone in the vicinity but not sure if it was you.
