Why do you assume that raising taxes and redistributing some of the money will make people have higher incomes? In the long run, higher taxes will cause workers to lose jobs and have fewer pay raises. More importantly, there will be less capital for people to start new businesses or expand old ones, meaning slower growth, or no growth in the economy. Your understanding of economics appears to be on par with Obama's.
The way I see it, those in power who have amassed a great deal of wealth are simply making it harder, if not impossible, for others to follow in their tracks. In a way, they have drawn the line on the "old boys club" and said we have room for no more of you!! You know, it will help keep the riff raff out. The ones that will be paying the outrageous taxes will be those who make a decent wage but have not quite achieved the ability to secure their own personal lawyers and accountants to dodge the tax code effectively as the powers that be do today.

I knew this reply would come, now compare to the inhomogeneous population of Holland (3% unemployment, 20% of the population consists of immigrants or children of immigrants). Your argument that Norway is better off because it's small (its area is quite large and it's thinly populated) is invalid since there are many small and poor countries.

In any case I am interested in the data for Utah and Minnesota and see how they compare to Norway.
Not only that but Norway has many small settlements in very difficult to get at places, the entire country is buried under a load of snow for several months of the year and yet the infrastructure is modern and working.

I must say though, it´s nice to see you and DSR debate intelligently on this particular subject.

That the comparison between the US and other countries with high taxes and low unemployment is valid.
