So let me get this straight, the format is different but the crew
is the same when we speak about the BBC we get out os UK?

Or is it totally different?

It's hard to beat a BBC documentary for quality of presentation. Some really memorable drama series too - a favourite of mine being 'I, Claudius'.

No, the format is completely different and the crew are by and large different too. However, both news broadcasts will use reports from the same journalists though.

I would agree with Philly here though that the 7.00pm Channel Four news is by far the best.

I'm not sure that BBC is the best source of news since it was crushed by Hutton over the Kelly affair - which has blunted its independence.

Its radio output is excellent in variety and depth. Its website is outstanding. Generally it innovates in media, the UK would be poorer without it.

why isn't the bbc subject to the same sort of fairness-in-competition complaints that airbus is?

Because it is not run as a profit-making company. Although how it manages to use the money is gets from licence-fee payers in the UK to fund News 24 and its Internet presence (in direct competition to non-UK companies) has always perplexed me...

I BBC isn't purely funded by the license fee. It also makes money from selling its programming abroad.

What are your thoughts on this matter?

Do you trust the BBS?

Is it impartial and trustworthy when it ...[text shortened]... overnment?

Would you say is the most reliable source of information we have at hand nowadays?
It is imposible to be totally impartial and trustworthy.
I do think the BBC tends to be less biased than say CNN but they could still do better.
All news organizations are influenced by the individuals bias as well as some overall policy bias.
Being independant doesnt neccessarily ensure a lack of bias. In fact independants tend to try much harder to please the viewer and this can lead to a lot of bias. (I suspect a large part of american broadcasting suffers from this).
If you really want to know what is going on in the world, try to check as many sources as posible. Then visit the place and talk to the locals. Then form your own opinion and you will probably be just as wrong as everybody else. About 90% of "news" is actually opinions.

The BBC website is quite good as well. I use it for news quite often. Very uptodate and less annoying than other sites. That said I use the Simple Text version of it. Only when wanting to read more indepth do i switch to the full graphic version.

With all due respect, you are a "sickboy"...just kidding, no offense intended... You trust the newspapers?...let me guess, The NY Times and LA Times are your favorite? What's wrong with FOX? Just because they aren't afraid of "spinning", you won't watch it? CNN is OK, but it is leberal-bent also. Plus Larry King plays "Soft-ball" with his guests, unlike O'Reilly, who throws fast balls that libersla can't even see coming. They are too afraid to even come on the show, but they'll swarm to Larry King for the "canned" questions...I do like Lou Dobbs, though.....

I like the BBC, for all its faults. It's my most frequently used source of news and info. It's far from perfect, though, for reasons well covered above. My only real gripes would be that the balance of programming is in need of review and that it's political ideology is inadequate: it is scared of the government and of the conservative elite. It should make more of an attempt to lead public debate in a progressive manner. The complete ignoring of the Scottish anti-War demonstrations in favour of Live8 was a real disgrace, and a huge disappointment.

That's because like your name you are a sickboy. Typical Liberal response when someone shows another perspective of the news. Probably have a picture of Dan Rather over your mantle.
