So let me get this straight, the format is different but the crew
is the same when we speak about the BBC we get out os UK?
Or is it totally different?
I would agree with Philly here though that the 7.00pm Channel Four news is by far the best.

why isn't the bbc subject to the same sort of fairness-in-competition complaints that airbus is?
Originally posted by ivangriceI BBC isn't purely funded by the license fee. It also makes money from selling its programming abroad.

Although I have to invest time studying the corporate structure and
the mechanism under the BBC works, I find it interesting that such
an important and trusted broadcasting corporation can be State
owned and still keep the level of quality it has.
What are your thoughts on this matter?
Do you trust the BBS?
Is it impartial and trustworthy when it ...[text shortened]... overnment?
Would you say is the most reliable source of information we have at hand nowadays?
I do think the BBC tends to be less biased than say CNN but they could still do better.
All news organizations are influenced by the individuals bias as well as some overall policy bias.
Being independant doesnt neccessarily ensure a lack of bias. In fact independants tend to try much harder to please the viewer and this can lead to a lot of bias. (I suspect a large part of american broadcasting suffers from this).
If you really want to know what is going on in the world, try to check as many sources as posible. Then visit the place and talk to the locals. Then form your own opinion and you will probably be just as wrong as everybody else. About 90% of "news" is actually opinions.

Originally posted by SeitseThe BBC website is quite good as well. I use it for news quite often. Very uptodate and less annoying than other sites. That said I use the Simple Text version of it. Only when wanting to read more indepth do i switch to the full graphic version.
Gee, twitehead, thanks for opening my eyes, mate.

What's wrong with FOX? Just because they aren't afraid of "spinning", you won't watch it? CNN is OK, but it is leberal-bent also. Plus Larry King plays "Soft-ball" with his guests, unlike O'Reilly, who throws fast balls that libersla can't even see coming. They are too afraid to even come on the show, but they'll swarm to Larry King for the "canned" questions...I do like Lou Dobbs, though.....
It is much better than every US television news network. To learn anything important (news wise) in the US you must read newspapers and/or Internet (and then have you to be careful which ones).
Although, CNN isn't too bad.
I like the BBC, for all its faults. It's my most frequently used source of news and info. It's far from perfect, though, for reasons well covered above. My only real gripes would be that the balance of programming is in need of review and that it's political ideology is inadequate: it is scared of the government and of the conservative elite. It should make more of an attempt to lead public debate in a progressive manner. The complete ignoring of the Scottish anti-War demonstrations in favour of Live8 was a real disgrace, and a huge disappointment.
