Of course, an old fart like you wouldn't accept any handouts from the state, would they?
You poor communist dupe. I pay over twice as much in income tax as I get in return for my contributions over the years towards that swindle called the 'OAP. Had I been allowed to pay into a privete pension instead I should be very much better off now. But that's what socialism does for you.

You may oneday, in your locked down bunker of the future while trying in vain to enjoy your oap, fondly remember the time when the biggest gripe you had was about those indolent lazy bludgers who sucked life out of the public purse.

The biggest growth in drug related offences in the UK is directly related to:-
(a) the indiscriminate mass immigration from the West Indies;
(b) the Labour 'Welfare State' which pays otherwise fit people to live in comfort without working.
Again, mosr of the gun crime involves those with roots in the West Indies.

particular arse? That about it? Hm?
Besides, there's nothing in socialism preventing you from saving your
money for a rainy day. To claim otherwise is just bull, is what that is.

I wasn't particularly thinking of the oap, but things like your free tv license.

It's inexcusable that the able-bodied forego the benefit and self-satisfaction of putting in a hard-day's work for a fair wage. In my parent's generation, self-sufficiency used to be a goal that all strove for, now, with so many regulatory agencies, tax men and aggrieved "victim's groups" to support, most people throw up their hands and say: What's the point? Why bother?
Its just a shame that many people in the UK donl;t see it that way.
For me....if I claimed off the state, my "ego" would take a seroius bashing
Lazy so and so.......I say bring back national service, force them to do all the jobs no ones like cleaning gutters......forget the fact that they are disabilied, make them work......😀

In response to Kmax I would say that The US has problems, and many of them begin with poverty and the absense of a social saftey-net. Something needs to be done about the huge gap between wealthy and poor. But crouched in a bunker? come on.

I was raised and have always believed that there is nothing wrong with giving someone a hand up and some help when they need it. That doesn't mean giving you a handout for the rest of your life. Government is not your Mommy and daddy, its not society' job to take care of you forever.
Unfortunately in the States, the progressives believe that it is. Bu ...[text shortened]... n be in office till it all falls down. Or we will raise the cigarette tax another $5 per pack
Those on benefits are notoriously bad at turning out to the polls, not exactly the best voter base to be pitching for. Those illegal immigrants can't vote until they're citizens, so they can't help those insidious progressives get into office either. As a smoker, while I like cheap cigarettes, I can see the point of a punititive tax, which given that I cost the state more in healthcare, I'm willing to shoulder the burden for a free choice. The alternative is private insurance, which will still charge me higher premiums if I was a smoker at some point in the past. I'd rather the tax on cigarettes which I stop paying as soon as I quit, rather than paying higher premiums whether I've quit the habit or not.
