That is what we're supposed to believe. Actually, when it was collecting a surplus, the money all went into general funds. Treasury then recorded IOUs to the SS and Medicare trust funds.

Now, there are insufficient funds collected to pay current benefits, so the general fund has to buy back the IOUs and interest. The short of it is that Social Secur ...[text shortened]... not being paid because every year we run a deficit. How long will there be fools to fund this?
That, at least, is an issue instead of a quibble over labels. But eladar says "Who cares what the tax funds. "

Of course, SCOTUS makes laws. At the time it was considered as outrageous as Robert's finding that the "fines" in the ACA were really "taxes" and therefore Constitutional. In the early 30s, many still believed that a single income tax was unconstitutional, and that a second income tax was unbelievable.

We live in a post Constitutional America. Juri ...[text shortened]... they mean. This really means ultimately that there is no law, just a sort of peaceful anarchy.
Nobody seems to have a way to get out of this situation. Just complaints.

There is Mark Levin's "Liberty Amendments" which are good, but not likely to move forward.

The usual historic path from anarchy is bloody civil war, followed by a strong dictator, and sometimes that giving way to democracy or republic again.

Most of us, me included, haven't got any way of conceiving a trillion dollars. Our government is multiple trillions in debt, and increasing at more than a trillion per year, while Congress quibbles about stuff around the edges.

The way things are going, it might take a while for this to all unravel, but unravel it will.

I'm reminded of a book I just read on racial violence (flash mobs). People who have been victims call police the next day, and find out there wasn't a riot, because it wasn't reported. No there was a minor scuffle. You are imagining those stitches on your face. People say that about SS and Medicare. It has always been paid. You see your doctor and he gets paid. No problem. People who run up credit card debt say the same thing, until they get the first denial notice, and the collection calls start.

I think it makes sense and doesn't in any way hide anything from anyone having 2 brain cells to rub together. I know you have already written off the American electorate anyway.

That speaks volumes about you.

Two brains cells to come up with the concept that a tax based strictly on income is not an income tax. Wow.

If it were an income tax it would be reportable as part of Adjusted Gross Income and then collected in that filing.

You have already said I am the problem. No need for more.

You are special to the government because you let it define reality. Don't think for yourself, just believe what the government says and believe it because the government says so. That's a very special kind of person, also known as a slave or serf.

I suppose you aren't so unique, there are many leftist types that fit that description.

I'm sorry that the government defines your reality.
