The post that was quoted here has been removedThat's a lot of questions so I'm going to focus on just this one
-if everyone in the western world wasn't so power and money hungry and actually thought about what was happening in the rest of the world would it change the world?
Yes it would change the world. Would it be good? Probably not.
Money is really an abstract. It doesn't truly exist until it's spent.
Most of the money rich people have stays out of existence. Most of the
money poor people have is spent immediately on creating more poor
people.
IMHO, until we have some kind of strategy to deal with overpopulation in
the world, there's no point throwing money at the poor.

DNA reproduces. That's what it does.
So, maybe "want" isn't the right term, but never the less, we're just vessels for the reproduction of DNA.
All DNA is is a self replicating molecule. The amazingness comes because it is able to form life about itself, and life is important. The molecule alone isn't particularly significant if you discount the life that it produces.
The post that was quoted here has been removedDoes believing in God affect this? Christ came to change the hearts of men so that mankind would be...well....more human did he not? If you read the Bible it deals mostly with reaching out to the poor and giving aid to the down trodden etc, etc. So if one were to take the Bible to heart it seems as though believing in God does affect the situation.

Why just the western world? You seem to be assuming that nobody in China and the rest of the eastern world is quite human. I hold that there is no difference between humans in the west and the east. We are all the same. I would propose to you that ALL humans are ego centric and concerned MOSTLY with self. You can call this "greedy" or "power hungry" or "money hungry", but that is just using euphemisms to morph "basic humanism" into political jingoisms.

I take it from this that you don't like change, or that you are pessimistic about people making changes, because the changes they make don't fit your culture.

lol. Ok. Now you know why a couple of dingle-headed economists (Marx and Engels) are indirectly responsible for 95 million political deaths! People abstracted a few harmless and goofy notions into world wide "causes". Doesn't it strike you as odd that "money" and the "abstractness" of the concept can cause such deep and severe chasms in cultures? I find it facinating.

You have bought into the politics of "Limits". Once you accept that limits are the guiding influence on humanity, you have to believe that "others are the problem". It is self-defining. I don't know if you have thought of the consequences of buying into the politics of limits, but the ULTIMATE path that it leads down ends with solutions that MUST reduce the problem. The politics of limits has to arrive at a reduction in population. This can be done how? Education? Not likely. Reason? Reasonableness is not a big feature of our species. (see ego)
Why not reject the politics of Limits? We are inhabiting a LARGE universe, and THERE ARE NO LIMITS. We can SAVE the Earth if we choose to move away from it. Or we can stay in it and kill it with our trillions of bowel-movements in the next thousand years. It is about that simple.
edit... and I know that "bowel-movements" are zero sum in as much as they are organic. This is a poetic tool to illustrate that as we live, we consume resource. Don't be too literal. The poetry of the mind can lead us to envision Soylent Green or Star Trek. One buys into Limits and the other doesn't. The fact that Star Trek plays loose with the laws of physics matters not in the least. Let's say that we expand no further than the Oort cloud. That is still an unlimited universe for the next twenty thousand years. Let THOSE people worry about limits.

But what should you do TODAY? Right now? That's a harder question.
The closest thing to an answer down through the ages seems to be:
Follow your Bliss, or
Pursue Happiness, or
Listen to the Voice or Spirit speaking inside you.
We all spend 20 years a child, 20 years establishing ourselves, 20 years as a chief or head of houseold, and 20 years as a philosopher.
If you can manage "to thine own self be true" for most of that time, then you did it. You won.

Why are we here, what is life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well tonight we're going to sort it all out,
For tonight it's the Meaning of Life.
What's the point of all these hoax?
Is it the chicken and egg time, are we all just yolks?
Or perhaps, we're just one of God's little jokes,
Well ca c'est the Meaning of Life.
Is life just a game where we make up the rules
While we're searching for something to say
Or are we just simple spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA?
What is life? What is our fate?
Is there Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate?
Is mankind evolving or is it too late?
Well tonight here's the Meaning of Life.
For millions this life is a sad vale of tears
Sitting round with really nothing to say
While scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA.
So just why, why are we here?
And just what, what, what, what do we fear?
Well ce soir, for a change, it will all be made clear,
For this is the Meaning of Life - c'est le sens de la vie -
This is the Meaning of Life.
