@kevcvs57 saidHe's talking to some Republicans, just not the ones who are inevitably going to confirm whoever Trump names. That is Republicans turned off by Trump's antics and hyperpartisanship; not a large slice of voters but ones it would really hurt Trump to lose.
But he’s not talking to republicans is he. He’s hoping it galvanises his base and gather some swing voters when the inevitable happens and the republicants laugh at him for his plea to reason and fair play.
If the Dems say nothing the republicans are off the hook.

@no1marauder saidThey would be included in my swing voters if their already wavering republicans and the Dems need to wring the last bit of righteous indignation out of this most cynical of moves by the GOP and Trump.

@vivify said"It absolutely is. "
It absolutely is. The impeachment showed Republicans will continue to support corruption, especially if it's politically convenient. We're in the same situation now with Ginsburg's seat.
americans pretty much didn't give a fuk either way. This time they might and this time it's really close to the election
They didn't care about Trump forcing a country to at ...[text shortened]... e statement just came across as pathetic.
But again, you're right. Biden has to say something.
No it isn't. I can do this all day.
"We're in the same situation now with Ginsburg's seat. "
Nope. We're closer to election day. Republicans vulnerable will thread more carefully. Americans care more about the subject.
"They didn't care about Trump forcing a country to attack his political opponent by withholding critical military funds and obstructing investigation into that act"
They absolutely did not. The democrats made a mess of it. Of all the things to impeach him on, they chose the worse thing.
"but they care now about the SCOTUS vacancy"
They might.
"Maybe I'm just ticked off at the futility of his actions"
slim chance is better than no chance. Him blabbing platitudes is better than staying silent. Already he is signaling he will basically be a republican lite president. There are plenty of republicans who might feel they could sleep better at night with him in the White House.
"Republicans filling the SCOTUS seat is inevitable, and the statement just came across as pathetic. "
It isn't inevitable. It ain't over until the fat lady sings. Some republicans might flip. Some spineless democrats might grow a spine and not flip.
