@moonbus saidAs long as you have it all figured out, I suppose you are the fountain of absolute truth as close as we can know it at this time.
Insofar as my opinions agree with reality, and someone else’s also agree with reality, we will likely be in agreement with other.
Insofar as someone believes all life appeared on the planet in one swell foop about 6,000 years ago, his opinion is at variance with both reality and my own opinion.
In both cases, it is agreement or disagreement with reality, not my opinion, which determines which opinions are right.
@eladar saidwhat the fuk are you even talking about?
Dismissing the science that you believe? Once again, thinking for Yourself means believing what you believe.
I had liberals pegged from the start.
Think for yourself is a fake statement.
With the covid vaccine as an example, i listen to the scientists, you listen to Tucker Carlson (who won't say if he got vaccinated) or whatever ashole is telling you to question the vaccines.
Yes, if you want to get technical, i am not thinking for myself. I am not a fukin expert on vaccines, i listen to those that are. If my car breaks down, i am also not thinking for myself, i have it serviced. By reputable mechanics. Not some guy on facebook
@zahlanzi saidI did not listen to anyone. I looked at the data and made my own decision.

@eladar saidIf you started listening to people who know better than you, you'd learn something.

Thinking for oneself is no guarantor of truth. Groupthink is no guarantor of truth. If everyone in the world thinks the world is flat and one person thinks the world is a globe, the one is right and all the others are wrong. Not because he thinks for himself, but because what he thinks matches the way reality is. If everyone in the world thinks the world is a globe and one thinks it is flat (because he" looked at the data" and made his mind up), everyone else is right and he is wrong; they are right not because of groupthink, but because what they think matches how reality is. There is simply no truth or virtue in thinking for oneself, per se. The guarantor of truth is how reality is, not whether somebody thinks for himself. Your failure to grasp this elementary point explains a lot of the rubbish you post, both here and at Spirituality.
@moonbus saidOh, ok I get it.

You just do not support the idea of thinking for Yourself because it could lead people to believe incorrect things.
@sonhouse saidI did not get to decide the death rates by age group. I did not expect to see that pattern at all. It has influenced my opinion about what should be done with this virus.
@Eladar
The truth is you just view the data that agrees with your POV. THAT is not thinking for yourself, that is just confirmation bias in action.
@yo-its-me saidI sure did.
Perhaps a good marker of thinking for yourself, is if you learned new things over the last year.
Did you Eladar?
I learned that 80 percent of all covid deaths in the U.S. are people of retirement age. More than half of all covid deaths are people over 70.
I also learned that the total number of deaths from COVID of all people younger than 40 is less than 10k.
@eladar saidOkay, facts.
I sure did.

I was meaning concepts, new ideas, new knowledge.
@yo-its-me saidFacts are not knowledge? I guess that point of view explains many people around here.
Okay, facts.
I was meaning concepts, new ideas, new knowledge.
