Politico, Newsweek, The Guardian, Washington Post, and a host of other prominent news publications have put forth legitimate reasons why Tucker Carlson of Fox News may be the GOP's pick for 2024. This is not recent either; his name has been floating around as a potential Trump's "heir apparent" (The Guardian's words) since at least 2018.
Tucker would be an absolutely dangerous candidate. He's Trump minus the monumental stupidity and with more impulse control. Any corrupt actions from Carlson would be much harder to expose, as he would be more calculated and devious. Trump could arguably have won this election were he just a little bit smarter and less obvious with his racism and corruption. Carlson, as a smarter Trump, could cause some serious damage.
Tucker lacks Trump's charisma but is a much better orator. He also doesn't have Trump's lack of filter (like when he called Mexican immigrants drug-addled rapists), which made Trump incredibly popular with racists and the GOP.
If Trump can somehow avoid prison after leaving office, he'll definitely run again; though by that point, he'll lack the energy he had in 2016. We'll see.
