Let's see what our inhouse socialist, Amaurote, who thinks the UK NHS is the best in the world has to say about it.
There's an amusing postscript to that report you haven't picked up on: it isn't restricted to the NHS at all, as you assume - nine of the hospitals criticized are actually in the private sector. Which is a huge figure considering the tiny size of the private sector in medicine in the UK.

They must be following the example set them by the low standards of hygiene generally accepted in NHS hospitals.
The difference is those private hospitals will rapidly go out of business unless they mend their ways, whereas the NHS ones will go being subsidised by the long-suffering taxpayers regardless.

On what do you base that assessment? Local schools and hospitals are being closed down by the state all of the time; BUPA has a virtual monopoly on the private sector. It's an enclave state within the greater state of the NHS.

Martin Luther King Jr. Harbor Hospital in LA is closing down due to incompetence. I don't think it's a private hospital.
